Well, i finally got round to getting a bottle warmer for the NOS. Have brought the wrong kit tho. The kit i have is controlled by heat, not a bad deal, but can do better. What i was thinking, instead of using the temp sensors supplied( they shut down the warmer when it reaches a set temp of 85deg F) could i get a pressure switch which will shut off the power to the warmer at 1000psi. Have done a few searches on the web, and called both Pirtek and ENZED with little results. Any one got any idea where i can get one of these suckers

Yep have tried them, there is a complete kit, and i dont have a Part no or i would just order the part from my NOS Supplier, he hadn't heard of the kit, but i found it at jeggs. Jeggs are very hard to contact and as such i have been unable to find out if i can get this part seperate or will have to buy another Bottle Warmer Kit

I would use both a pressure and temp switch. Otherwise what happens if the pressure cant get to 1000 PSI? You could have a BBQ in the back of your car!

No Need to worry about that, on Wednesday night just gone, i "bodgey" mounted the warmer into my rear cigarette lighter plug and within 8 mins(2 cigarettes) it had gone from 800PSI to 1100PSI. This was without the thermal switches. NOS state that optimum pressure for NOS to be injected is between 950 and 1050PSI, hence i am in search of a 1000PSI Switch.

go the middle ground.
I know of plenty of MUCH lower pressure switches, nothing that strong/big though.

I feel that a purge kit is unnecessary on a 150hp kit. For a 1000hp kit then yes a purge would be the go, but for anything less it is purely wank value IMHO

Apparently Billy Glidden in the USA always uses a special water tank to keep his bottles at a specific temperature. So, going off that I would believe that pressure is very closely related to gas temperature.
Check the pressure a few times at different temps and you might find no need for a pressure switch. A decent multimeter will have a thermocouple. |

Thanks Bert, but you appear to be missing my point. What i want is a switch that when bottle pressure reaches 1000psi, the bottle warmer switches off, then as the bottle cools and the N2O is used basic physics says the pressure will drop, so the warmer turns on again and raises pressure to 1000psi, and so on until i have finished racing or am out of NOS. Yes i could use my multimeter, but that would then require me to continually go to the boot and check temp/pressure and manually turn off the warmer. That is the way i am doing it now, and is not what i really wish to do.Do you see my point.

Just make sure you don't heat the bottle so much you end up burning things. How hot can the heater get?
The temperature/vs pressure thing only works if there is the same ammount of NOS in there. If there is only 1/2 a bottle then it will take alot more heat to reach 1000psi. -So you will definately need a pressure switch to do what you want. Try air-con components. Some comercial systems generate 3000Psi -there will be switches for that. Might cost the same as your NOS kit though.

I do understand what you are saying. I am trying to say that I believe that the bottle pressure will be constant with regard to temperature whether or not the bottle is totally full.
100 deg is the same regardless of the capacity of the bottle. The guy who signs off on the LPG installs was saying something to this effect at work. Billy Glidden working on temp not pressure lends me to believe its true. He is a very seasoned NO2 user. Use the multimeter to check the theory only not for continual monitoring. |
