hi all
i am putting a turbo on my au falcon s in a month or so. i have access to a vct head was wondering what peoples opions are towards the vct? whether it is a waste of effort to put the vct on when turboing or leave the original head and cam. to my knowledge it is the base head and cam not xr.
if anyone could give me an idea of what sort power output i could expect from the standard cam compared to the vct would be great thanks

Im sure that the VCT would be an issue with the ECU etc, assuming you'd be fitting an aftermarket computer.

It'd result as redundant?

Im sure other guys have more info, but that would be my guess.

imo there is not much to gain from the vct. especially the changes needed for it to work in a non vct car.

i have a turbo'd vct engine but i have removed the vct cam and cam sprocket and fitted an aftermarket wade non vct cam and vernea gear.
mine was supercharged before i ditched the vct, and i had more gains from the aftermarket NON vct cam than when it had the vct cam operational..

vct cam supercharged made 206rwkw, ditched vct and fitted a wade cam and made 216 rwkw supercharged..
now turbo and its making 267rwkw

How much boost pressure are you running? Also do you know how much a standard au bottom end can handle?

that power is at 12 psi.. it was at 12psi while supercharged aswell..
just to give an idea,
on many of the tunning runs it made 230rwkw@ 7psi ,250rwkw@ 10psi and the 267@ 12psi, i have upped it as high as 18psi for s**t and giggles but the gearbox starts to slip..

i think with a decent tune 300rwkw would be about as much as the std bottom end will make before it starts to bend std rods ect..but that also depends on how healthy your engine is to start with..

i have been running 12psi into my engine for near 4 years now and its my daily driver..
