I have decided to use BA argo rods and BA forged pistons and have a relief milled for the intake valve for my next e-series turbo build up.

This is really only for the hardcore turbo fanatics but on another forum we are doing a Argo forged I beam rod group buy so normally the rods around $1400, the group buy should be around $1150 plus Postage.

Also I am getting proven 500kw pistons but cant reveal details on net for certain reasons. These are $1250 including rings but need a valve relief to be cut out. I've done alot of research on these pistons and short of custom pistons from Special Piston Services for around $1800 are the ones to get.

If anyone wants any of this hardcore stuff then email me as I dont mind getting it at the same time I get my stuff.

It is so tempting but I really should get my car running first :(

I take it the BA pistons are a perfect fit for a BA motor?

Ill have a think about it and get back to you.

Its only the rods that there is a decent discount for a small volume.

The pistons can be gotten anytime. I think their discounts start at 20+

Cool, have you set a date that you need the money by before you buy them?

dunno if i need rods that a good for 900 kw thou, i was going to get the 700hp atomic 1's. it would be extra weight i wouldn't need running the 900kw ones.

The following are bits and pieces I copied from the other forum (dont think I can mention)
Basically on a dollar per kw the argo are the strongest and cheapest rod at $1140 plus freight on a group buy of 4.

Looks like
Turbotrana
Muzza (from other forum)
Possibly Dansegli

need one more.

Looking to purchase in next week or so, as soon as have four definates that can transfer the money.

The following are bits and pieces I copied from the other forum (dont think I can mention) that may help make a decision.

Argo make a I beam, around $1400 set rated approx 900kw

Group buy Argo I beam around $1200 plus freight for 6 sets(now its four sets for $1140 according to Muzza who lives around corner of ARGO)

Atomic do a H beam Std rod, $1500 set rated 600kw (their fig)

Atomic Fat H beam Fat rod, $2100 set rated 950kw (their fig)

Then you have Carillo (I think Nizpro use/have used these), Scat, Par rods ($1800) and a few others.

Argo reckon that on a strength per weight basis that their forged I beam rod is quite light in comparison to the H beam

Target horsepower is about 750 ATW

If anyone interested in a group buy then this might be a place to indicate.

argo 900kw rod weighs 680 grams
atomic 600kw weighs 630grams
atomic 950kw weighs 710 grams

Dollar per kw rating the argo wins hands down. I will probably get a set. If anyone else interested in doing a group buy please indicate. Even if I get two sets we will save $100 a set off normal trade.

Possible interested

Muzza
Turbotrana

I spoke to Sean a while back & he can do them for around $1140 if we have 4 or more set. I'll drop in over the next week once we have more definite number & see what he can do.

Muzza.

More info. Argo explained reasons why the forged I beam is better in many respects to the H beam. I only understood one quarter of tech explanation and I deal with engines all the time and just accepted what he said. Every manufacturer likes to sugar coat their product but this comes down to kw rating per dollar for me.

Argo has been making rods for quite a long time and have a reputation for quality so there are no issues with the product. I doubt 1 in 10000 will ever exceed the rating of this rod but I see myself exceeding the Atomic 600kw rod which is $300 more expensive. The Atomic 950kw rod looks good but is $900 more expensive.

Here is another cheap option. I have no idea about the quality though. I think spool rods are only a few years old, there would be people using them in Nissan engines on calais turbo by now as he is or was a sponsor there.

I will try and find out more about these SPOOL conrods. I think I would feel bad not buying Aussie for just a couple hundred bucks but will still look into it.
If these rods are rated at 900hp(675kw) then I think the 900kw ARGO rods still look good for me for the group buy price.

Did a little research on Spool rods and rods in general. The Spool rods are tempting based on price and are probably a very good rod but for this particular motor that I am building I think I am inclinded to stick with ARGO and have a bit of piece of mind unless someone can convince me otherwise.

We are still doing a group buy on ARGO rods on a Ford Xr6 Turbo forum and the buy is scheduled for late March.

We only need 1 more definate to get the $1140 plus freight price.

If anyone definately interested then PM me.

More info from the other site posted by Muzza:

ere is Argo's site to look at http://www.argorace.com.au/
I got some feed back today from Argo it goes as below
"Hi Murray,

Sean is only working part time with us now and I only check his e-mail occaisionlly, sorry I didn't get back to you before.

We have 8 sets of the Ford BA Turbo rods on the shelf at the moment, cost for 1-5 sets is $1140 each plus GST, however if you order 6 sets the price is reduced to $1050 per set plus GST. So if you can find six buyers that would be better for you all.

Argo conrods are rated at 200 hp per cylinder. Rod weight is 686-688 gms. Argo rods come completely finished - bushed, shot peened, balanced and fitted with ARP 2000 bolts so should not need any further fitting.

Looking forward to you order.

Kind regards

Jenny"

There issome pic's on there site.

We have 4 buyers now, only need 2 more to get the $1050 price.

If anyone is thinking about it but not sure you can put a $500 deposit down with Argo and pick them up and pay the rest when you are ready.

This will allow us to get the group buy and people can pay as they please. We need 6 deposits of $500 to secure the lower price.
