Can somebody tell me what sort of horsepower a n/a fairmont auto fourspeed trans will roughly hold reasonably reliable with a big cooler on it? i know it varies with each gearbox but just a ballpark figure would help... i have everything right to run roughly 350 horsepower at the tread fairly easily so anything close to that if it would handle it would be great... i did this because it is a fairmont ghia and its just a little different than buying a xr6t... i have been told that the higher compression wont affect the running of the turbo at fourteen psi by the guy thats tuning it

Power: 482 rwkw

Std B/A's had 180 RWKW through auto..
But can be stepped tp to 220 / 240rwkw
I would fit larger injectors and up grade fuel pump
etc...
Yes with good cooler the BTR can take this power easy..
Rising the line pressure helps.. The turbo BTR's have Kevlar bands
same as the V8 auto...
Check or Google water / meths injection .. This WILL help in cooler
intake and combustion temps. Keeping detonation away...

the btr should hold that preety well. just depends on how your drivin.
If you like to rev shlt outta it n D bomb and all sorts of stupid things then i wouldnt expect anything to last very long.

But if your drivin fine and give it the occasional squirt it should hold up for years to come.

I know when APS first started drag racing the BA Xr6t they found they auto held up better than the 5 speed. And they were 11 sec cars. But when I spoke to them they definitely said you have to run a much bigger oiler cooler and solenoid mods make shift harder reducing the slip in the clutch packs as ford allows a little slip for smoother gear changes. So drivability will be up the s**t but much improved shift capabilities and reliability.

I understand it's a Turbo question here, but my input should be relevant.
I've been running a blower with 14lbs of boost for years with no intercooler,no trans cooler, running around 270rwkw and everything is just fine and dandy.
Having said that guess what's probably about to happen.
My car is a just a dirty rotten low rse BA XL 4 speed column shift that shuts down Eurotrash out to about $160K.
Cheers HTH.

turbo's typically have that big surge of torque that tends to have the effect of breaking things.

I've never seen a turbo dyno chart at around my power that has anywhere near the low end torque my car has,so to me that's not right. My torque peaks at 1800 revs and is flat all the way to the redline.
Not picking an argument just saying what i know about my car and my car only..
No i don't have any dyno charts availables they're in storage with my junk.I'm going on the rollers again very soon though and i can shoot them as soon as i got them to ya.
Cheers. .

Bringing boost on too early breaks trans and engines..
Generally a turbo is easier on both..
Due to the way power comes on ..
The drive assembly of blower MUST be calculated in total
power through crank when it comes to durability..
Up to 330RWKW is fine on BTR with BIG trans cooler and
higher fluid pressure..With some mechanical sympathy..
The t5 will break ar 250 rwkw...

Here you go cooky, because Im a top bloke.

Here's a BA raptor chart from the raptor section. The flat torque figure is pretty interesting. It looks like other engines with a raptor have torque rising with rpm's. Maybe its a VCT cam and auto thing?

Here's mine for comparison sake. Torque is the top line. Not sure how to compare the figures in different readings.

If you can get the line pressure increased the trans will last a while. That's whats good about the BA's. They can tune the transmission easily.

A mate just bought a 300rwkw BA that has a stock auto which has been running like that for 25,000kms.

Dan the man,how are ya.
I can't see that BA graph for some reason.Give me a link dude plz.
Just had a look at Pete's and yea very similar to mine.
Yea i raised my line pressure through the C5 and through the tune.
My box seems very healthy.
My torque i don't think is hitting the torque tag and just staying there cause i'm sure they have been removed.
Cheers

that surge that hits between 2000-3000rpm (ie, going from 0psi to 10psi) would be much harder then the gradual build up from a raptor.

Hey to the OP ,it's how you drive it mate, i do a mini spool about every 18 months but that's the price hey.
Dan that thing of yours would be a buzz to drive in a power drift yea.
Drift her up through the gears, woohoo.
I'm at 10 or so less RWKW than you Dan but i got or had last run 1170NM's all the way to the hard cut too..
Cheers.
