Just finished turbocharging my ba na xr6, I drove around for about 3 weeks without a tune with standard 1 bar map sensor. I've used standard xr6t parts. Turbo is a Garrett gt3540, I got it fully custom flash tuned on dyno at Casey performance in cranbourne, after paying $1450 it pulled a low 152rwkw on 7psi. They told me it needed an intercooler because intake temps where way too high, I wasn't planning on running one due to p plates.. The next day I bought a standard cooler with 2 and a quarter intercooler piping and fitted it up. Took it back to get returned and made 175rwkw. Still very low power! They said get some bigger injectors and it should shoot way up to about 250rwkw. I bought Bosch 1000cc injectors and took it back for ANOTHER retune. Another $200 later for retune It still only pulled 196.1rwkw on 10psi. It's an 05 BA mk2 xr6, 3 inch dump, 2.5 inch high flow cat ,2.5 inch exhaust split into twin pipes, 20% underdrive balancer and cold air
They acknowledge that its very low on power, any suggestions on why? They are telling me to remove butterflies in manifold, get new 3 inch exhaust, there also suggesting buying a 12psi actuator to hold it at 12 the entire rev range because the manual boost t controller might be dropping the pressure,. All this seems un'necessary. It should be putting out wayyy more!? Is there something simply I've missed?

have you changed the fuel regulator, be really carefull with turbo on the stock na engine as they run higher compression and dont like to be turboed, also try octane booster to compensate for the higher compression

What fuels it tuned on? What type of gearbox or clutch (if manual) is in it?

It's running safe timing, 10 degrees advance. It's a 4spd auto, been 30% shift kitted with flash tuner, running a brand new turbo fuel regulator. Only every run 98oct with octane boost for peace of mind.

Just got me shattered, did the whole conversion myself, and spent almost another 2k in tuning everytime being promised figures only to come up very dissapointed. I don't know where to start next, I don't think the butterfly setup would rob so much power, a few different experts agree, xr6t's make plenty power without the need of a 3 inch exhaust, and the boost controller can't be a problem can it? Shouldn't need more than 10psi to pull pretty good figures. Plus being a higher compression engine, I've been told that it should make very good power while staying at low boost.

don't they have a twin 2-1/4 standard? a single 2.5" is too small really. most N/A cars run that

Yeah standard turbo exhaust is 2 1/4 twin, I've got 3 inch dump into 2.5inch cat and 2.5 inch catback with straight thrue mufflers. You think this is holding me back? I would've thought it would put out more than 196 at the wheels with this setup?
Fuel pump is standard but replaced 10 thousand kms ago, the injectors I'm running are huge (1000cc Bosch). There zoned in at 15% of there capacity so I'm told fuel isn't an issue since there's another 85% to play with. It's actually running rich, throwing up codes every time I drive it, ie: P0712 system too rich(bank 1) P1130 lack of h02s11 switches uel trim at limit P1131 lack of h02s11 switches sensor indicates lean p1132 lack of h02s11 switches sensor indicates rich P1383 camshaft position timing over retarded (bank 1)
All these codes pop up after driving, not reoccurring when idling though.
Seems like the 02 sensor is having a fit, makes me think the tuner has done a sh*t job, but I know this place has a good reputation so maybe not.

i'd go an exhaust. 3" definitely. And a bigger fuel pump.

Maybe go to a new tuner.

so much easier and cheaper just to put a xr6t engine in it rather than converting the na engine

Maybe try dropping exhaust at dump pipe on dyno and see what it picks up. On my old turbo el with 2.5" single exhaust, with no cat, backpressure was way high around 10psi on only 8psi boost. This in turn means less timing on boost can be used hurting power further.

+1 for exhaust and fuel pump upgrade.
I'd think high comp motor should be making more power than a turbo motor on 8 to 10 psi.

Sounds like you have a fairly rich tune.
Though the tuner could have done that to combat the higher heat the high comp turbo'd motor would be coping with.
If you run a better intercooler to keep air temps down, and perhaps a cooler rated thermostat, they may lean out that mixture, and make more power. Also maybe some manifold spacers? Haven't heard much on them.

Did you have it dynod before it was turboed. 152rwkw at 7 psi is only ~10rwkw more than what the car is stock. Id be getting rid of the 2.5" exhaust for starters and going to a different tuner
