Being cast iron you wont be able to weld it. The proper way to 'weld' cast iron is to braze it and to do that you need to get the pieces red hot and they have to stay that way while you are brazing it.
Not really practical and good luck finding anyone willing to do it.

Not really practical and good luck finding anyone willing to do it. Cast iron can be welded, you just have to pre-heat the cast iron and keep it hot. My original Turbo Manifold was a modified stock manifold, was a backyard job and didnt leak in the 3+ years it was in use for. Many people weld the cast exhaust housing of turbo's also.

I have a cast one from a EA I used to have actually forgot I had it. Are cast better than the snort ones?

Depends on design ?? But REALLY what power are you after??
The cast manifold will do fine..They generally hold heat in better.. E/A to A/U have the same bolt patern...A/U engine..

Oh my bad just re-read my post. Didnt sound right. I have a snort manifold already fitted to my car I am looking at getting a min of 300rwkws which has already been done through a snort manifold so I just wanted to know what peoples thoughts are on the cast ones as I have one of them in the shed

no steam pipe is extra good quality steel (providing it IS steam pipe) which when welded in accordance to as1836 will withstand pressures far above 4000kpa.which is obviously completely un-nessecary but given the enviroment wouldn't be considered overkill, just heavy.

Would it be possible to make the flange out of a steel plate, drill the holes in the right places (for the E series block) then weld a bolt onto the flange facing out, so the BA manifold can bolt onto that?
So the top bolts go through the manifold, flange then into the head. The manifold bolts onto the flange and the flange is bolted into the head. This assumes there is no interference with the bolts. If this doesnt make sense I could draw a picture, if that helps. Any idea if this would work? |

Any idea if this would work? yes it would but but with these kinds of things you want as flat a mating surface as possible othrwise you can have issues getting it to seal (and having two of them doubles the chance of something being warped and not wanting to seal) what others have said is correct you can cut the BA flange off and replace it with an e-series one, the cast manifold needs to be preheated (if you use a big enough welded heating during welding isnt needed) and then you need to get the mating surfcae machined flat afterwards if its not flat anymore
