hey guys i was just looking to get a belt driven supercharger and ive been told their pretty cheap ...... does anyone know how good they are .....and if their worth the money
i have a 97 el futura ive been told you can fit them to them thankyou for your time |

AFAIK all superchargers aerw belt driven 
What kind exactly are you asking about? Have a search for powerdyne and vortech on these forums, get a feel for whats around... we can be of much more assistance when we get a better idea of what you're looking at.

Nah, there are chain driven ones. Very very uncommon, I can't even think of an example, but I have seen tehm. Check out Powerdyne and Vortech from CAPA. Or I think there's another mob now, Raptor or something like that who I hear are cheaper - but I don't know about the quality of there kits or whats included. |

hmm
well for starters i was sussing out the electric superchargers and asking around bout em. I asked the guy at autobarn and he said their are belt driven superchargers that i can pick up for $450 i thought FUK...thats alot cheaper than the 7-10k mark. Now i am on my P's and strapped for cash so looking btween 400-1k is a reasonable bracket for me. He said they could run up to 15 psi or something( Not that high on a factory motor) i cant members what model but i think he said they came off some kind of toyota(second hand) he said they are from city dismantlers... so i immediately tried to jump on this idea. just wanted to know if any1 knew much bout em? |

Those electric superchargers are not superchargers. There computer fans that someone is trying to sell off as a performance car part which they are not. Yes, you can pick up a normal supercharger for $300.00 upwards second hand. It will most likely be off a Toyota engine very small capacity. It will not do didly squat on a big Falcooon six. 15psi? Try 1. As for total cost being $450.00 for a supercharger set up. No. There's the fuel side of things, brackets piping work, a lot more. Also being on your P's, have you considered insurance for a car with forced induction? I'm on rating 1 with no claims or crashes, no speeding fines nothing and it's not cheap for me to insure a supercharge Falcoon because at the end of the day I'm still 21. |

First of all...you will need more then just a supercharger. You will need the intercooler, piping and all that jazz. I think at 15psi you will need an ECU cause the stock computer won't know what's going on. Then there are other bits and pieces required. It all adds up to more then $1000. For $7000 you will usually get the whole lot (minus ECU I think). Not to mention for a legal blown Ford Falcon Pre-B-Series, you will require an engineers certificate. SO a lot more then just a supercharger. As twr7cx and 4.9 EF Futura mentioned, check out powerdyne and vortech. (is this a troll?) phong =P~ phong =P~

Pardon me Martin but there is a guy in the US that has managed to drive prochargers directly off the crank pulley buy using some form of gear box. When I get my scanner I'll post up a pic. It was in car craft around 6 months ago. |

Much better off with a cam/exhaust IMO. Your budget would probably evaporate in trying to get sufficient fuel into the motor @ 15 psi to avoid this. just wanted to know if any1 knew much bout em? We certainly do Have a search for toyota superchargers in this forum, there's been plenty of discussion on the matter. IIRC no one has gone ahead with such a project.

electric superchargers...they are extremly cheap are they worth it...i am starting my apprenticehsip so saving up 6-7k is not int he ranks anytime soon. [/quote] |

are they worth it... No they aren't. Probably starve then engine for air unless you have 4 or 5, Still then your not going to be gaining much. Plus, it isn't even compressing the air like a turbo or supercharger would, it's just moving it. |

 I bet you get some nice torque from one of them.
Even if you got a supercharger for $400 you would soon be spending $$$$ to get it running on your car. Trust me I know
