Hey all, i've started the slow process of turboing my falcon and have some question about the best bottom end to run. I am using a garrett t04b turbo which i eventually plan to run a maximum of 12psi. What do you guys think would be the best value for money bottom end to run? i Was thinking a standard au crank balanced and blue printed, au rods and aftermarket forged pistons, would this be capable of handling the sort of boost im after reliably, is it an overkill? any help would be great

id go a freshen up of the engine, balance the crank, get good rods and a good set of pistons, and when the motor goes bang u could spend the $$$ and go forged pistons etc.

Yea after reading about turbotrana's effort on fordforums im thinking ill just keep a stock ed motor at about 6 psi till it either blows up or i can afford something much better.

Righto thanks, im only planing to runa maximum of 12psi so i think ill keep the stock bottom end, maybe just get it balanced, and i got a set of heavy duty valve springs so ill fit them also.

Yep if rpm is the same they strong engines..Its just when power is doubled that anything weak will let go..If pulling engine down though I'd fit some better rod bolts, you'll s**t yourself when you see how small they are..The rod will need re- clearancing the big end as it can alter when machining for bigger bolts...

word on the street though is that those rods are good for 300KW.

Has Micheal's EB had any head work? Valves, porting, etc?

bogan has a 3.9/4.0

And yeh, those stock rods are pretty strong. I guess if you've got the money to make 300+ RWKW, i'm sure you could spare the few hundred extra dollars to get stronger rods..

NAA only Wade ll cam and new head bolts..The head wasn't taken off, just fitted new bolts and tighened them down hard!!!

No porting...
His theory is that there are PLENTY ohc six's out there if his goes west...Why spend mega bugs on a engine you can buy second hand for $600 ???? [ Wish I could say the same]....
Just EMS 8860 36Lb injectors 1 to 2 rising rate reg, 255 Walbro intank fuel pump.GT 3540 turbo, 45mm turbosmart wastegate, 600 x 300 tube & fin intercooler and his own log style manifold and cold pipes..AU servo's on auto with big trans oil cooler and slicks on open diff...
