A local bloke in the servo built a six out of his late model EL. Turned out it was an AU engine in it from factory. He sourced a cam from somewhere in the states that use these engines in their RV's. The head was treated to a set of 302C valves, cos they were heaps bigger, crow springs and RB30 valve retainers. They managed a massive port job after butchering an old casting to realise they could get nearly 1/4" all they way through the ports before finding water. End result was a nice balanced six making about 210kw on stock ecu and injectors, gets about 50k's less to a tank, but goes well.

The U.S don't have this engine...They have v6's...Or V8's...
The V8 valve stems would be far thicker than E.L/A.U valve stems...
Hmmm ???????????????????????????????????????????????

If your talking 30 psi, expect to upgrade a lot of parts, if you want the engine to last and be stable.

Thanks for the info Mark, & others it's interesting & useful. I've heard that the AU rods are stronger than previous models, and the BA XR6T one's are even better. But as Mark said, look at going custom or aftermarket.

EDXR8380- your right they don't have this engine but they import them for use in Winniebago's or something similar because of their good low down torque and fuel economy. They were mentioned to even be used in a east/west config with a specially made transaxle casting fo fit it all in. Sounds ugly, but at least resulted in someone in the states playing with cams long before anyone did in Oz on a commercial level. As for the stems and guides, they were all just part of the head work, it was/is an impressive performing car for a very low budget, I'm pretty sure it came in under $2500. How it all technically came together, I'm not any authority to say, but I just threw the ideas in I've been told about in case someone can make better use of what's readily available and with a bit of technical know how to have a go, instead of spending mega-bucks on shiny go fast bits out of a box.
