im turboing my ef xr6 getting around to where i have to start thinking about the engine only loooking for around 220- 250kw at the wheels
im planing on useing an acl race series rebuild kit with pistons cause the bottom ends are pretty strong allready but id like to get the compression ratio down to about 8.8:1 seen around some people useing EB 3.9L ACL pistons in a 4L bottom end with a 11cc dish But the 3.9L's according to the ACL site run higher comp ratios than 4L iv know you can get 1.3mm headgaskets whitch im planing on useing anyone ever done this and know if it will work or anouther reliable way or decomping a I6 (No decomp plates) or should i just save up for spool rads and cp pistons |

just use a std bottom end it will be fine as long as the tune is spot on and the fuel system is up to it.
Spend the money on decent engine management instead |

A 3.9L only runs slightly higher compression if you're running a 3.9L head with the swirls in it.
If you're keen on dropping compression you'd be better off buying custom pistons, which aren't cheap. Unless you know of some-one with access to a specification list of piston sizes so you can find something close to what you want and can be modified to suit........ I know of a guy years ago who used Holden 253 low comp pistons in a 202 6 cylinder block to drop compression for running a turbo, so it just depends on how keen you are to research what you want. If you're going to the length of kitting the engine, even if with non forged slugs then get the lowest compression pistons you can buy. Ie the biggest dish you can find.
Last I remember, you could get a 22-28cc ACL standard piston. Too much internet hogwash about compression ratio's and drive-ability. Go lower than the 8.8:1 or it is useless. you want to go to about 8.0:1 or even better 7.8:1 You'll be safely able to run about 18 psi with a cast piston providing you have an excellent engine management and fuel system. Spend your bucks finding a very decent tuner who has been there and done that. Don't even bother with a guy who just has a dyno and talks the talk but hasn't got cars on end to prove his work. Don't touch your head other than to get a decent cam and springs.

They have or can order custom pistons which makes fitting straight forward.. So the full floating pin can be used.. Many have used two MLS AU head gaskets and had no issues.. My 1UZ engine has small holes in big end & bearing so oil squirts up under piston for extra cooling.. Atomic rods have oil gallery oil feed up to pin, under piston for lube & cooling also..

If you think you might get the bug after 250kw and want mooooooore power then save up for the CP's. At least you can push more power without having to rebuild the engine. And then you can get whatever comp you want.

A mate has run 10's with std rotating assembly.. YES a grenade.. He swaps head etc
when his $300 high mileage [complete car] fails which in most cases its the timing chain bolts or auxiliary drive ceases.. Except in one case when running N20 a rod or piston hasn't let go.. This is mainly due to 8.8 compression of the early E series motors.. He runs E85 with more than 400rwkw..C4 couldn't hold the shock of trans-brake now it runs an aftermarket Powerglide... What I'm saying is if its a street motor just rely on GOOD tune.. AU engines make good streetable power but due to compression there max power levels are limited.. So if your going re-build do it right or not at all.. The larger clearances of a high mileage engine helps with forced induction.. As with anything modding engines etc.. Its very expensive, doing it twice is way more expensive and frustrating.. He now has recently fitted a forged engine and 1200 h.p turbo.. After much much badgering from myself...

This guy is a s**t talker.... very average pistons for what he is charging. They cost him bugger all but their clearances and quality are really really average.
Spend a fraction more on quality products. As mentioned already, DO NOT USE A DECOMP plate.... they're s**t and cause more areas of failure. Get the right pistons to suit the compression you want. 8.5 is too high. Go for 8.0 at the most if not 7.8. The AU motors are plenty torquey enough to put around with that comp with no issue and when you run boost you can happily run 20 psi all day every day if not more. As mentioned, I'm running 7.8 and 28 psi and drive it daily in all conditions and by no means is it babied. Then again, the engine builder and tuner is a legend! Don't rush to the first bargain or what you think is a cheap way out. The company in your link is an extremely budget way out but even so, his products are marginally better than cast stuff. At least with the cast stuff the quality is what it is and the clearances much better.

Yeh only hear good things about the one guy i know wontt use anythink other than cp
So im now thinking of going au block with cp pistons, spool rods, au mls headgasket at hopefully somewhere around 8:1 - 8.5:1 should be good for 15 psi + |
