Hi there,
I have an 02 BA XR6T and ive bent the conrod in cylinder 5, apparently this was a common problem with the first generation XR6T, anyway im rebuilding the engine and i was told to go for an BF F6 short motor because they have the stronger internals. My question is can i put my BA head on the BF F6 short motor. I wouldnt think there would be an issue. Im just not sure, and i would like to be 100% before i buy it. Cheers, Nathan |

The BA XR6T had issues with the conrods on high boost, the BA head should work and solve that problem.

Just get a egas bottom end or any turbo bottom end from 6/06 onwards.

if your rebuilding the bottom end just put some decent rods in it...
atleast you know it then can handle more than the std f6 bottom end. |

Cheers, Nathan out of interest how much power were u making to bend the rod |

I was making 227rwkw on 11.5 psi
Yeah i thought it would bolt up, i was talking to a family friend who works at ford and apparently you cant get an e-gas short motor so thats why i was looking at the BF F6 short motor. |

gee the ba rods cant be that week to bend at 227rwks and 11.5 psi??
unless there are other factors?... afaik au rods are similar or to an extent the same, i was at 265rwkw @12psi and am now pushing 14 psi into it and no probs... |

Yeah there was another factor i had a lean out backfire which i think caused it. Didnt know why it happened until i pulled the motor out and found that the boost/vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator that goes to the inlet manifold had a big split in it, which i pretty sure may of caused the lean out, not too sure though but sounds possible. |

I dont why people recomment an egas short motor for these things. They run above 10:1 compression and would be useless for a turbo car.
You would need to change the pistons over. |

There is a somewhat common beflief that the rods are better. BUT by the time you throw a rebuild kit through it, an F6 or late XR6T short motor or known quantity would be the go.

It is a fact that F6 and post-6/06 XR6T engines use BA E-gas conrods.

Fit a set of these and be done !!!
http://www.spoolimports.com/content/SPO ... ONRODS.asp With a nice set of forged pistons... Way way stronger than F6 assembly...

you can machine the E-gas rods to accept a rod bush and using a turbo piston you have a stronger than F6 bottom end.

Yep the turbo pistons are full floating...
They don't appear to be any stronger other than being a lower compression piston... Is the GAS rods and piston combo full floating ?? The pin moves in both rod and piston ?? Keep in mind the Spool rods are $780 a set... It doesn't take much labour machining to reach this amount..
