Posting on behalf of a mate who has a BF xr6 turbo. He wants more power but is under the impression (from his mates who are the worlds greatest ford technicians...) that he can't run more boost because the injectors are already at their limit. Can anyone verify how much boost he can run and roughly what kind of power to expect with the bare minimum of supporting mods (flashtune or whatever) without having to put bigger injectors in?
Cheers in advance!

From what I have been told, they max out at 280rwkw. So they would be know where near the limits at stock.

In the street fords mag they got a red xr6 turbo to 260rwkw at 13psi, that was with an fmu and t rex fuel pump + some special do hicky from cappa.

If they are really factory trained technicians, then they have advised reasonably well.

They are close to their limit, but I think you could *SAFELY* get another 20 to 30rwkw out of them as the car is now. Limiting factor is more the cat and the exhaust.

If its the right model BF, $2500 will get him in the 290 to 300rwkw range.

Must not be a very hard working XR6. There are a couple of cars on here with that boost level at the 285 to 295rwkw range.

You'd be a brave man trying to do that with stock injectors though.... :?

Cheers for the response guys. I knew a bloke a couple of years ago with a BA xr6 turbo who had around 270rwkw and I'm sure he didn't have injectors upgraded so it seemed a bit odd to me that a BF wouldn't be able to hit the 270-280 mark. Any idea what they have at the wheels standard?

What mods would that cover?

How much is he willing to kill his engine ???
He's going the right way about it !!!
If it runs lean it will detonate, damage is severe..
Then they'll say turbo engines are unreliable ...

Cat and Injectors, plus X3 and tune. Although the cooler might hurt a little.

5" 100cpi cat $250 fitted
x3 $800
tune $600-$1000 (from someone decent)
60lb injectors $450 fitted

total $2100-2500

and pushing that power, he REALLY needs to get a cooler, especially with somer coming! so add about $600 for something half decent, or something second hand... id rather 300rwkw all day every day, than have 300, then 280, then 250, then 230, after a few hits on a warm day...

i wouldnt be tuning stock injectors past 250-260rwkw, no more than 10psi... too much heat will be created for the cooler to cope with...

manual or auto? the stock manual clutch wont take much more than 270rwkw without slipping....

sorry i sold that long ago, personally id stear you away from it, unless you really want to keep it stock, they dont perform much better than stock.... mine struggled running 9psi, the cold side of the cooler got too hot to touch sometimes.

im now running a hybrid kit, was about $550 and included the cold side pipes, can handle 350rwkw and was within my budget.

i run about 9 psi (for 277 rwkw) and the cold side of the cooler is still very close to ambient on a warm day...

once i get my clutch upgraded, ill be running more psi
