hey guys,
going down the turbo track and got a quote for making the engine capable of holding 15psi. said they have to rebuild the engine and get forged internals. quoted about 12 000. this is just for the rebuild - nothing else those who have gone through the process does this sound about right ? thinking of runnign the engine with forged internals on 6 - 7 psi for the time being cheers

u will only need forged pistons at the most. the rest will be fine. thats a pritty steep price there, who was that quote from??

12g must have some bling on the inside.
reco, BA lpg rods, and new set of bangers and a lot of head work and you still should have at least $9000 to spend on some new beef curtains.

quote was from x speed - they have never touched a falcon tho
cant seem to find many other shops - havent been looking for very long fitting the turbo n intercooler shouldnt be a prob but the internals will need to be put in by shop as well as turbo cam n oil lines (have no idea how to mount the cooler etc) was thinking whilst they had the block to rebuild bottom end. that could always be done in a couple of years tho

x-speed is a very good shop and have one of the fastest skylines in Australia. but they are obviously expencive
give ovaboost and hyperdrive a ring and see what they have to say. the stock bottom end will be ok with 15 psi but u will need to drop the compression a little. how much power do u want?? remember u are also going to need a aftermarket ecu and upgraded fuel system.

this i am aware of. decided on the wolf ECU and most likely end up with 42lb injectors, upgraded reg and bigger pump x-speed is a good shop, they just said they havent touched a falcon before so everything will essentially take longer. ovaboost and hyperdrive do rebuilds etc ?

how much power are you after?
a stock engine with a really good tune should hold 15psi. but in that range id say youd be hitting 300rwkw and the gearbox would be a bigger problem. i see you got a 5 speed, that will die long before you get to see a regular 15psi.

maybe just go for the 8 psi for starters
gearbox and diff will definately come in time so there is no really need to have the bottom end rebuilt until i go for the works by the sounds of it im sure 8 will do my just fine for a year just wanna get the project underway 300rwkw is a lot more than i would be wanting at first

What are the cheapest pistons that fit an ED motor that can handle 8 psi? What other internals would need upgrading?

Stock pistons are fine (as always providing the tune is good). No internal upgrades needed for 8psi, spend the money of the fuel system and tune.

picking up xr6T pistons n rods - why not upgrade it a bit
definately want a good tune - no guzzling petrol or going boom - that is BAD ! (curiousity, ill need to mod the au engine to handle them yea ?)

How much? Where from? New? Will they fit straight into my ED block?

If they quoted you 12k for a engine rebuild then their quotations person has NFI. Maybe the fact that they have never done a Ford I6 is a bit of a worry when this is one of the most common engines in Aust.
Advising that you need forged internals at 15psi is wrong also. ACL race series pistons and standard e series rods is all you need. You should be able to build a strong engine and a decent turbo kit for around the 12k mark
