Hey fellas
Im hunting for a 4cyl capri right now for a long term (and first project) and ive delved into the world of V8 windsor/clevland search both stroke and blown/turbo'd and yes while it interests me im looking for something else....and i thought why not a 1970 Capri with a SR20 bolted into it or even a Mitsubishi 4G63 (yes i know their an E/W engine but s**t the capri has alot of space), anyway i was just wondering if anyone had information on the conversion or if anyone has done this sought of thing before, im not looking for rediculous amounts of power (more in the range of 3-350hp at the tyres) but i want it agile and nimble thats why id choose to go with the 4Cyl engine rather then a blown or stroked V8 (or even stock).... Anyway thanks for any help you guys can provide or if you have any ideas Thanks heaps |

They are pretty damn light. Well under 1000kgs or so I've been told.
How about the 2.6L astron from the sigma/magna? Those things hammer with a bit of boost pumped into them. Capi's in any condition are getting harder to find these days. Ever thought of using a 4 door escort? |

Rough weights - GT V6 1040 kg (We got these, known as the GT2600 overseas) GT2000 1030 kg (something we didn't get, proves how heavy the Pinto engine is) GT1700 980 kg (V4 we didn't get these) GT1500 975 kg (Unsure we even got these) GT1600 (We got these for sure) Would be similar weight to the GT1500, it uses the 1600 Kent cross flow instead of the pre cross flow 1500. http://www.globalcar.com/datasheet/Ford ... GT2600.htm

Ever thought of using a 4 door escort? Cheaper and lighter to go the 4g63 to get the power and weight balance he is after than the Astron, unless he wants to modify. Got to agree about finding a decent Capri, if it is decent it will either be a colector type car or is is hell modified already, most likely to have a V8 already fitted. Finding a decent Escort is getting that way too, being pommy based they have a crappy build design, find one without a rusted out firewall/heater box! But I still love them.

You can get an sr20 engine dirt cheap, the 4g63 <i assume you would get one from a vr-4> is a bit pricier... afaik. |

I just found one (mk2 escort 2 door) yesterday. minor rust in the lower rear gaurds, other wise rust free. on topic, look at a CA18, cheap as now cos all the import guys take them out in favour of the SR20. the problem with the sr20 is the cast aloy sump doesn't leave alot of clearnce for the crossmember and steering. the CA18 has a pressed steel sump and can be cut and welded ti fit. it's also not a tall as the sr20 and generaly fits better |

If the day ever comes where I have to wreck my corsair I'll drop that engine in an escort and turbo it.
2.4 litres, 94kW, 3V head and a 6500rpm limit in factory NA trim. |

Hey guys, thanks for the reply but 4cyl capris are always poppin up on ebay and such and yeah some have "minor" rust but i can take care of that no worries, just would like input on pricing for a conversion of SR20 and also what auxiliery things id need to change and also if i could use lets say a Motec M800 ecu stand alone instead of the SR20 loom?
Thanks guys |

Thanks guys if you go with an SR20, find a manual wiring loom and use an Apexi power FC computer, it will come %100 plug and play with a factory tune. it also retains all factory functions and is emissions legal. |

just a question, are you sure?? i was under the impression that for any programmable management to be emmisions legal, it had to have a password protection feature?? so you cant F**k with it

Powerfc do not come adr aproved, its programable so it will never be approved.
Is there room for a 1JZ in the bay? That would be my budget kw pick, but otherwise the SR would be the pick of the 4cyl motors, just for the huge range of new and used bolt ons available |

1JZ would be much heavier than an SR20 but definately a good pick if your after power.
Why not get a full SR20 half cut and just use the stock computer. They have room in the management for bolt on mods (exhaust, turbo, more boost ect.) unless your going to lift power substantially it would be much easier to use the stock computer. Everything you need to run the engine will be in the half cut (exept fuel pump) |
