Doesn anyone know of any places that supply complete or partial turbo kits for our aussie v8 windors?

Ive chosen to go down this path, so any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers guy.

Do it yourself with help from metal fabricator or exhaust shop...
Here's pics of mine...

http://au.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/kiwi_r ... /my_photos

Pics of that cracked block is not mine...But where they crack if too much power / abuse is thown at std block..
The other block is a Dart block with 4 bolt mains on all 5 mains...Which I have upgraded to...

That was gona be the next question that i was gona ask, single or twin..
I was thinking more along the lines of a twin setup..
Whats everybodys opinion on this?

I already know some metal fabricator who are willing to help out, its just a matter of turbo selection..
If single, which turbo?
If twin, which turbos?

These are pretty vital things, and im pretty much a virgin when it comes to forced induction knowledge, so need some advice from you guys who have 'been there, done that' before..

Much appreciated guys.

Ps. Im sick of saying that im going to do something, then dont..
Its time for me to put my money where my mouth is and get the ball rolling. The sooner i know EXACTLY what is needed for the best possible setup, the sooner i can get started..

Mate two T3's as you are limited by the blocks strength...
Single a T60...Gt40...??
Check what they use on these kits....

Good stuff!
In your opinion, would you recommend a single or twin setup?
Also, what made you go with the twin setup?
Would there be much of a price difference between the two setup options?

If I was to do it again I'd go single, no crosover pipe to feed one side of intercooler. If things need fixing or over hauling its one price not double... More room with single....

Go for the biggest single turbo you can afford... within reason that is :) TRUST T77 with a Tial 55mm wastegate would be my pick.

I'd go a GT42 or a TA/45 I've seen a TA/45 make 455rwkw on a 355 stroker at 4000rpm with the turbo coming onto boost at only 2600rpm.

f**k ay! The GT42/TA45 is worth $4K in shops!
I stumbled across one on ebay for $1650, brand new and everything..
Here's the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... eName=WD1V

Opinions?

Also, what other specific turbos would yous recommend?

Also, if any of you stumble across a suitable turbo on ebay or something, dont hesitate to let me know, would be much appreciated!

For me, looking at all the turbos available out there is like learning another language! Frig! lol

That GT42 you found on ebay is prob US dollars, but I am getting one from US and it should cost about 2500$ AU give or take depending upon exchange at the time and duty/taxes etc etc. That same turbo is 3700$ new from GCG.

If you are putting it onto a street driven 5lt then as EBXR8330 said use a GT40 instead. The GT42R is rated at over 1000HP. You will crack your block in half with anything over 600HP so be carefull.

The GT's from what I have read are fairly large in actual size so make sure you can fit it into your engine bay.

Spend all your free time searching through the info on that Turbomustangs website and within 2 weeks you will know more than you need to, and listen to EBXR8330.

Be very mindfull of what your goals are, I started out just as you have and am now very very very very very broke, its like a black hole of monetary sucktion, you get one thing and then it spirals.

Work out what you want and how much you have to spend and from there I am sure we can all work out what is needed to acheive it.

Turbo's are either relatively cheap or extremely expensive, stick to one or the other, I went for the second option and am now out of pocket about 25K and don't have anything that runs yet.

Sorry for the long post.
Later
Charles.

My goal was to do it all for around the 8K mark, but if i have to ill spend up to around 10K max!

Obviously id do it in stages, and source most of the parts myself to bring the total cost down a touch, but yeah, in all honesty, is it possible to build a single or twin turbo setup on the windsor for the amount that im willing to spend? If i did source the parts myself?

Ive been in contact with a few places, and theyve each got their different opinions when it comes to making it a single, or twin..
Its kind of confusing, different people seem biased to one or the other at times.. :?

Are there any MAJOR differences between the two? Or will they roughly be identical in the end? Apart from double the parts/hassle with the twin..

Cos if i can get away with a single setup and be as good as, if not better than, a twin setup, then that would deffinately be the way to go imo..

Cheaper, less hassle, less piping, less space needed, etc..

By the way, thanks for all ur help guys, dunno where id be without ya's! ;)

Yeah I think you could do it for 8K.

The only downside to doing a single setup cheaply is that there aren't many single turbo's goin round that are big enough, I mean there are but not always easy to find and if you do, it is prob off some diesel truck and its got a real puny wastegate or an overly large exhaust housing, whereas two t3's off some nissan 3lt are perfect for a street setup, I think thats why many people like twins they are more readily available and cheap.

The single is better for the reasons you listed..

I would seriously look on that turbomustangs.com site and look in the group buy section, Joe is having a group buy on Master Power turbo's, very cheap, don't know about the quality. BUT very cheap, I think they have a good warranty too. Never heard of anyone killing one. They just don't have BB turbos.

Should ask EBXR8380 what he suggests for you to use in the motor, I believe he would be better qualified to help you on this one.

The problem you will encounter is that once you have more power other parts will begin dying, box, diff etc etc.

Be mindfull of emmisions laws and stuff like that, you may need to test it, I really don't know, I run LPG so no emmisions problems.
