Hi guys,
Just after some help and hints regarding my XT BA falcon. I am wanting to convert it to turbo (will be using a snort based kit) The car is currently running a ford factory fitted gas system (direct gas) I do not wish to change the system to a gas injection system as I have had major issues in past. I just want to know if anyone has done such a conversion, and what type of results did they achieve? And can someone also please list all the parts required for such a job? (besides the obvious turbo, manifold etc) I just need to know more about the gas side of things as I am not too familiar with it. And can does anyone know any good workshops in Melbourne who can tune the car for my once its setup? Thanks in advance. |

Hey Geoff!
Yeah its me mate. I am still contemplating turboing the car. I just cant drive an NA car anymore LOL. All my other cars are either turbo or V8's. So I am just trying to get all the research together for the gas side of things and then I shall be making a trip down to see you. To get the kit organised. Most likley be end of the year. Are your plenums suitable for LPG set ups? Because I beleive they may split open if the car backfires? |

yeah mate the plenums are rock solid cast alloy
we have done a standard gas ring setup it required upgrading the converter and running balance line other than that 9 psi yeilded 230rwkw ( au platform ) not the best way to go about it but it works ( however limited )

Yeah I remember you saying that in the email you sent me last. I am very keen to give it a crack.
Why is that set up very limiting? If I can deliver anywhere between 180-200rwk I would be a happy chap. Its just going to be a daily. I would rather put the coin into the other cars. And you were definately right about all the so called big name workshops. None of them are willing to give it ago. |

limited power wise but anything is possible mate
200rwkw should be no problem

Thats all I am really after anyway. I am assuming if I do require the urge for more power I would need to install larger converters?
If you dont mind Geofff, can you just list the parts I need to get everything going? Just so I can start buying them all now Because that way when I bring the car down to you, I can get you to fit them at the same time. And lastly where can I get it tuned? |

for simple low boost application , upgrade the converter to larger flowing unit ( will have to check what we used ) balance pipe to converter then have setup on a dyno to ensure correct mixtures
cve in melbourne can tune the car once its all setup and done

No worries. Sounds good mate. Just let me know the exact parts required and I will hunt them down and then later bring down the car to you for fitting of the turbo etc.

If it is my car Geoff is referring to (unsure) it was a Landi Renzo SECSIC81 SM+P.
SNORT were a huge help in getting the LPG to fuel under boost and in sorting out a number of fiddly other bits. I have a dyno proven 222.5rwkw with 8.5 psi. Thats barely using the turbo.

Thanks for that mate. My turbo is also getting fitted to an x cab. I know first hand how helpful Geoff is, he did the entire install on my VT V6.
I am only aiming for 200rwk. |

All blow thru turbo setup's on LPG will require a balance line from the intake to the converter to make sure the converter continues to deliver LPG when the car comes on boost.
As has been stated, a std gas setup with a turbo is limited in it's power output, but is 200 or a bit more rwkw really all that limited? That's more rwkw than the engine had at the flywheel to start with. I'd be happy with 200 rwkw for a daily drive! Cheers ToranaGuy

I'm thinking of putting a turbo on my XR6 which currently has a LPG mixer setup I have thought of going to an injected system come October. What problems did you have with gas injection? I thought it was meant to be streets ahead of the current stench/low power/back fires I have with the mixer setup ?
