Hey guys, I just want to get an idea of what dishes you guys have got on your pistons? I have decided that if I'm getting my motor rebuilt I may as well turb it so I'm rethinking my bottom end.
My mate owns a reputable shop and I have been given a good quote for 300rwkw. I would like to get some CP pistons on the spool rods, mainly because I don't want to have to pull the motor out again (Wishful thinking...?) ACL Race series are only slightly cheaper than the custom cps so why not. What I want to know is what you guys have ordered in terms of dish size. I would like a good comp rate for a turb application which I think is between 8.8 and 9.2:1? I talked to my rebuilder and he says it depends on many varibles, but I would imagine my 'variables' would be very close to yours, so any suggestions would be appreciated. I read on another post tickford_6 reckons a 12cc dish is the way to go (that was with BA kit). I have an EF block with an AU head. Hasn't been shaved. Thanks guys. |

Do you want the motor to have strong bottom and midrange or be an all or nothing screamer up top proposition?
Compression plays a big part in how much power an engine can potentially make and how it delivers that power. With a high comp motor you generally run lower boost levels and these engines typically tend to have a strong mid range and decent torque under boost. The perfect lazy mans power plant. With a low comp motor you require more boost to build the same cylinder pressures. These engines are typically all or nothing in their power delivery. Your compression ratio range seems to be good for the lazy mans engine. If you were to build a low comp lightswitch then you'd be aiming for anywhere from 7.5-8.2:1. VL turbo's are 7.8:1 standard. |

I was running 22cc dishtops on H beam rods, even in NA it punched 146rwkw's car was written off BEFORE turbo project could be completed. Had all the gear, just not the $$$ to tune after the install process.
I did not slap a turbo on it until I was in a position to have a tune done. Doing one without the other is not going to do your setup any favours no matter who builds the motor with what parts.

going off what a standard xr6t is, 8.7, should be a pretty good indication.

Cheers guys, lazy man engines sounds like the go! Definetly after the torque.
What sort of comp were you running with the 22cc dishes Todd? Tune will be no problems, the tuner I have been put on to works wonders with Links apparently, so thats the road I will be going down. |

We have run up to 15Lb on std AUlll engine..
Assuming it has 9.2 compression ?? XR6 tmk has 9.6 ?? If this engine can run std compression with delicate cast pistons.. Then I would say say just a slight drop in compression with bigger valve notches for further mods or just extra piston to valve clearance... If you want to run around 300 rwkw... 8.8 to 9.2 will do fine.. Plus if you ever want to up the power levels etc ?? Bigger fuel pumps[2x044's] and injectors [160Lb] and run E85 .. 400 to 500 RWKW is easy achieved... The only reason Ford lowered comp was for durability with cast pistons plus they have to build for the total fool...
