Just trying to get a bit of info for an upcomming turbo conversion. My car is an xf falcon with a ef 4 litre fitted which is manual.
Just wondering if anybody has any reliable info regarding the differences between the two bottom ends?. Will the ef sohc head bolt onto the ba short motor and will ef or au accessories bolt onto the front?. Or are all of the mounting points and block dimensions different including the timing chain cover?. I have been looking at the atomic short motors for ba xr turbos and was thinking that it would be a really good upgrade providing the blocks are very similar. When you consider what it will cost to build your own motor to the same specs. I am aware that the au and ba sump arangements are totally different to e series and cause clearence issues but i will research this also. oh and i guess you would need different pistons to suit the sohc head. Sorry for the long post but any info would be great. |

the EF (or any EA-AU head for that matter) will not bolt onto a BA bottom end. The AU motor would be a much better option, the clearance issues on fitting it to E-series arnt that bad, and id be guessing that fitting it to an X-series falc wouldnt be much harder.

i dont think itll work, but thats just my opionion, now my idea is, research everything thoroughly, get all ur measurments and if everything seems right, theres only one way to find out, and thats try it and let everyone kno, altho get a remote start so ur no where near it wen the block detonates haha jks nah go with ur gut man, js do ur research properly and u mite be on a gold mine

yeah just throwing around some different ideas at the moment. Ill most likely stick with the ef motor with the turbo untill it gets sad then i will look at some upgrades.
Au motor with atomic rods and cp pistons seams like an easier option for reliability. |

Yeah im pretty set on all of the turbo hardware most of its all here but the prices of gt35/40 bb turbos are a bit scary at the moment. I'm thinking i might pull the head off and do some light porting and cc the chambers a bit to reduce compression.
Which crate motors were you refering to?. I thourght that most of the crate motors were v8s not 6s. |

Find out if you can get an AU bottom end rebuilt with all the good gear from atomic. Then it would be a bit easier and cheaper for ya. Theres an XE getting around in VIC that has had an AU engine fitted and its turbo and on LPG. This thing pulls mid/low 10's and makes around 550hp at the wheels.

The AU blocks used the sump to help increase rigidity. The XH sump wont go on im afraid!
