Due to the constant on off throttle applications when drifting, how would a gas setup go? Would it tend to backfire? or is that upto the tune?

should be 100% fine, back firing is usually caused by lean mixture or bad spark.
i don't think on/off throttle like that would cause it to backfire.

only backfires I've ever had (mines not turbo) if from bad smark plugs or leads or mixture/tuning. Never been from thrashing the car around.

problem with wanneroo is that theres bit of a hike to the closet lpg station.
.. unless i missed one somewhere around there.

i looked into the same thing, i wanted to setup a XF turbo gas setup, only to be told, that race tracks don't like LPG tanks, i spoke to winton and calder and they said the same thing, no LPG tanks. so you might want to look into this.. just a thought.

I was at the Winton Fun Day (maybe different rules on Fun Days) and my cars on LPG, they had nothing to say about it, they just checked i had the sticker on the number plate.

The ruling is:
we allow LPG at Fun Days as we aonly allow "80%" driving. LPG is not allowed at other meeting unless the tank is approved for racing, now don't ask me what that means as I don't know.

that well and truly sucks so no-no at private days and open practice? do you know how we could find out more about the racing approved tank?

Sorry guys, but it is for safety reasons. As far as finding out some information, try CAMS
edit; I found this on a Drifting Bulletin from CAMS Quote: 24.1 Commercial Fuel
a) Commercial Fuel: A fuel produced by an oil company for sale in the Australian general transport fuel market. Such a fuel must comply fully with the Fuel Standard (Petrol) Determination 2001, including amendments as made under the Federal Government Fuel Quality Standards Act 2000. Competitors are reminded that certain “Commercial Fuels†as defined by CAMS are not legal for Road Use, and their use may render the competitor liable to penalties under civil legislation. b) Liquefied Petroleum Gas: The fuel must be a commercial LPG being a mixture of Butane and Propane, of a type which is dispensed from a service station pump. Where a vehicle utilises LPG, a sign in the form of the white letters LPG on a red reflective background, as per drawing G-1 must be placed immediately to the left and centralised vertically to all competition numbers.

So providing it's displayed that the car is LPG it's all cool?? does this count for winton VICDrift days?? i have talked to someone, but not sure who.

Didnt a couple of XR 6's run at bathurst on LPG a few years back. I think they had quick remove tanks for faster fills.
