can anyone tell me why the xr6t dosent use the duel length runners just has an empty chamber and or when turboing a ef el why some people take the butterflys out or tie them open ( the short runner length )?.
i know the longer runners make more torque down low. and with the turbo it mite not need the longer runners to help get more torque. but if they did use the lopnger runners down low with a turbo wouldnt the make lots and lots on torque??? hope that makes sense |

Probably because when an engine comes onto boost the longer runners begin to become a restriction. People fit turbo's to their cars for the power they get when on boost. Hence why you see the BBM disabled on most turbo cars.

opening the butterflies will also create a larger plenum volume which is a good thing with a turbo, I'm still trying to understand the relationship of power/torque and plenum volume

but when it get to max boost the butterflys shouldnt b far from opening so therefore the longer ( more restrictive ) runner is negated???

The BBM was designed for NA engines and has little advantage when running boost. If disable it and remove the butterflies it increases the flow through the short runners giving you more power.

We did a heap of testing with plenimum's when building my one. The longer smooth style one didn;t pressurise up as well as the square'ish boxed one i ended up with.
We also flow tested a number of designs and a lot of them did not flow smoothly on cyclinders 3 & 4 which end up running lean and hence hotter.

it probably didnt appear to pressurise as well cos' it flowed better?? what exactly do you mean by that statement??
