what are people experiences with the just jap wastegates? I realise they are cheap china imports but do they do the job or are they prone to sticking and overboosting?

What happens when the wastegate fails? Do they usually seize shut or open?
I reckon as long as you keep an eye on boost pressures then it may be worth the risk unlike a dodgy turbo where pieces may end up in your engine. As others have said though, better to spend the cash and have reliabilty. Taking apart pieces of the exhaust system sucks. |

to buy a name brand wastegate is more than $200 extra though. if they seize open it's fine but if it sticks shut I'll overboost. I'm not looking for opinions on if I'm a stingy bastard or not, it's a well known fact I am. I just need to know if they have failed on you or a mate, or if you or a mate is using one without trouble.

theres some gates on ebay U.S for about US$210 and they're american made with a life time warranty, so maybe try that as an option if the jap ones dont sound good?

The cheap one's have issues the sealing or binding on the main shaft...They can either stick closed or open... Smaller w/g start at $350...Or alittle more for Tial http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Tial-Wastegates_ ... dZViewItem
Its 90 % of your tune!! If it over boosts yu are relying on your ECU overboost cutout... My reply was supposed to be humorous .... As I say to myself !!! Don't tight on ECU or boost control.. A few $$ is much cheaper than new engine.... They are on the exhaust side of turbine so no s**t goes through engine....

AU Fairmont Ghia, I'll double check on that as I was going to go with a 46mm one but the 50mm wasn't much more expensive and was available with heaps of different spring pressures.
