cheers fellas, those ARIAS pistons i got are BA xr6 turbo 1's, cant menba wat the dish is. before i do the head ill cc it to work out the comp ratio.
Has anyone stroked a I6?
is 12.7 the ideal A/F?

i would say those piston would have around 12cc dish.

no i don't think u can stroke them any more, and i dont realy see the point as its long enough as is.

hay ebs_4l how many cc did u get your cambers to?

also what head do u reckon would flow more with extensive porting, el or au??

i got my chambers to 63cc i think they were, problem is my head has been machined a couple of times, regardless, it aint easy to keep the std chamber design and get more than 2cc out....

ALTHOUGH, i did see a very interseting pic of a falcon head on AFF a few weeks ago, someone had done his chambers, and they were completely round, ie. no squish pads left.... interesting to see how that performs.... as a lot of heads on imports have no squish areas, and yet some gurus make a huge fuss about quench area, and dont like the idea of head shims...

one tuner i spoke to said that once your making over about 140hp/l that it is beneficial to have no quench area as it can induce detonation...

ok cool, a standard el head is around 63cc.

i was hoping with the new engine to run around 8.2:1 comp with nothing but 1 au gasket. sound like im going to need around 18cc dish in the piston.

do u know much about the au head?

Keep the standard front bar. A decent sized cooler fits pretty well.

to stroke it we just found some rods that had the rite size's gudeon pin, and length, then moded the crank to suit. should have the crank back soon so we can dummy build it to see if it actually is goin to work! lol

how much would a toploader cost by the time you got the box, mounts, clutch and everything needed to fit it? and what sorta power are they taking (say closer ti 400hp, 600hp etc?

im curious, not because i would ever want to stroke a 4L, but im curious as to how you are going to achieve this...

you say rods that have the rite size length, rite size for what exactly, and what size are they???

what do your crank mods invole doing??

i understand what is involved in stroking an engine, but i just want to hear what you have done to yours

sounds good, will have good touqe but i wouldent want to rev it to hard.

i gess u found a rod that uses the same length but with a smaller big end size, then the crank is sent away to get the big end jurnals offset ground. just means the piston is ferther down down the bore at bdc. there for the swept volume is larger.

its good that u are trying somthing diffrent, hope it works out.

not really frtizz, your swept volume idea isnt quite rite. if the rod length is kept the same, and uses a smaller big end, and you have the crank offset ground, you will end up with the piston hitting the head

you need to fit shorter rods.. so that the piston sits flush at tdc, but due to the larger stroke, it travels further down the bore, keeping in mind you need piston skirt to counterweight clearance
