Hey mate im pretty sure only ebay makes manifolds for EF's. I have only seen 2 EF turbos and both of them had ebay ones.

any manifold will fit EA-AU no dramas...
wont need to be EF specific. and i wouldnt give up on the cheaper "home made" ones mate if you are only going for a setup with a J3 (meaning your limited to around 10psi) then theres no reason spending big bucks on a 6boost manifold lol the log manifolds on ebay for $250 a great value if you cant weld one yourself and would be good enough make more power than a standard engine will handle. just cause its made at home doesnt mean it will do any less of a job than one made in a workshop. then theres the ghetto ones i make, these suit the people throwing together a budget setup using second hand parts (ie like me) and can get it done for around $1k if you buy the right parts at the right time. all depends how far you want to go with the build. i would hazard a guess and say the $250 log manifold would suit 90% of falcon builds.

that is a standard manifold thats been modified to suit.
dont discount the standard manifold, ford didnt spend hundreds of thousands of dollars designing them to produce something that doesnt flow well. |

lol i didnt want to promote my own manifold.
there has been a few different versions of people using the standard manifold. can weld a flange directly to the manifold - this limits the turbo being used as it must be between the manifold and strut tower and a few others have done a similar design to mine. ppl have achieved 200-220rwkw and they have lasted years, so done right they can be a cheap option. i do make them at home yes, but they would be made pretty much the same way in a workshop. as it says in the ad, i heat the manifolds at 250 degrees for a few hours, then heat the welding area with a blow torch before and after welding, then back into the oven to cool down over a few hours. there are actually workshops keen on buying these off me to use in builds as there are not many manifold choices in the budget market. really suprised me lol the design isnt ideal due to the way the exhaust gas will flow, but thats not to say that it doesn't work. this was the first one i made (i wasnt trying to make it pretty lol) and have since changed the design slighty, but this is where the turbo sat but as said, manifold choice really depends on the ultimate goal of the car

you need to be able to weld and use a grinder lol
thats bout it theres a few different ways of going about it doing what i have done is easyish, but still need to know how to get the final product to a certain point (especially with the fact that you need to weld 2 different metals together) you can do a log manifold, but again need to know what your doing to certain point and will take some time. basically, if you're not prepared to learn enough to make it yourself (which includes buying the tools) then it works out cheaper buying a pre made one. a log manifold could do upto 400rwkw no worries if its built right. the ones i make, we have guessed at 250rwkw max. honestly the guy off ebay seems quite good for $250 log manifold

explain why someone should pay $1k or more for a manifold when they are going to run no more than 10psi?
id like to hear your reasons.

Quality, power, flow, the ability to upgrade when you get sick of what ya have, because cheap manifolds look disguisting, but if you only want it for a cheap upgrade go for it hay, only when you look under the hood it will look like a turbo shop threw up and left ya with a big ugly mess to deal with

I will not disagree that a homemade Turbo manifold will not produce reasonable power. But I would have to say I would not buy one off of ebay for a few reasons. The fact that its a home job means it could have been made by someone who may not have enough experience to weld and the welds may not have enough penetration. There is no guarantee of the work and it may have air leaks because of improper welding. So as soon as you bolt it on, if you find any leaks, off it comes again to get re welded. Dont know what thickness material its been made out of. May have been make out of 2mm walled mild steel and not steam pipe. Just asking for trouble there if you ask me. |
