Yeah, i have spoken to a few ppl about emissions testing now, some say that $3k for the test is s**t, "more like $150", some say that the capa kit comes with a compliance thing for the emissions, who knows.

I will find out the truth and let everyone know :)

So is this what we're talking about Re" emissions testing in NSW?

http://www.greenhouse.nsw.gov.au/action ... esting_rta

I'd be curious on a beginners walk-through of what it takes to get the CAPA Powerdyne setup approved in NSW...

I'll be doing this soon with a Raptor kit, CAPA having told me they no longer supply Powerdyne kits when I rang them, credit card in hand, last September. I'm not far out of Maitland BTW.

Are you talking about 4V 5.4 kits?

I'm guessing not since the website only shows Raptor doing I6 kits.

Do you have the kit already? I got the impression CAPA have gone out of Powerdynes altogether. If you bought the kit from CAPA they should be able to supply emissions compliance paperwork when they get evidence you've installed the kit as per their instructions. You shouldn't then have to do an IM240 emissions test, but will need an engineer's inspection and certificate, and possibly a drive-by noise test.

If you get a kit 2nd hand via Ebay, CAPA probably won't supply the paperwork at a guess, and you'll have to do the IM240 test at Penrith or Rosebery.

I know I'll have to have the full range of tests & inspections on my car as Raptor don't emissions-certify their kits and I have a non-standard exhaust, so when I get through the hoops & post up the procedure it'll be a worst case.

Yes my car is a 6, but the procedure will be the same for a V8.

[Edit] I do have a timing issue though. I'll need a rego inspection in August & I'm not sure if I'll have it engineered by then. I'll probably wait until I get it registered before I install the kit.

Getting back to insurance, I was quoted $190 by Just Car for my Vortech-powered 5.0. However, as pointed out by others, Just Car have "we will not cover a car with illegal or unroadworthy modifications" in their fine print. So what's the friggen point...

Shannon's insurance was interesting. I was quoted $550 through them, and their fine print states that they WILL cover a car with illegal or unroadworthy mods, AS LONG AS the insurance claim is not in relation to the illegal/unroadworthy mod.

If I was a a*** and ignored a stop sign & ploughed into an $80k mercedes, I'd be covered. If I booted it up the prinny, lost control & smacked into an $80k mercedes, I would not be covered.

I think it may be a little more subjective than that.

If you booted down a hill and lost control - sure the charger let you get that fast, but it could be said you may have lost control without the charger.

I'd say more along the line of spacers - illegal, but they will cover the car with them as long as they weren't the cause - ie whele nuts snapped and you hit another car.

While i'm sure they would try the charger was the cause of the accident you'd have a stance of prove it was the extra power provided by the charger and not my s**t driving that caused it
