Just brought myself a 2003 BA xr6t with the 4 speed auto and 120000 kms on the clock. Just want some ideas on mods I can do that will give me good power but won't compromise reliability. I'm looking to spent about 2 grand to start with. Any help would be great thanks.

Ive heard of quite a few people changing the exhaust, cat and dump pipe, cooler, valve springs, fuel pump
Injectors little bit more boost and a tune for a good reliable power upgrade. Though thats more than 2g
edit: i can recall my mate sinking some cash into his bf xr6t and i think he did all the above mods and it ended up being 400hp at the wheels which ment his next upgrade would have been his engine as it was going to be a weak link in the chain

That kind of power would be great but im not looking to go that far as im trying to keep it on a budget. I was thinking of doin the exaust, cold air intake and a basic tune. I have know idea on what brands to get or what it will cost me though or the power gains i will get

SCT xcal 3 tune on std engine will bump it to around 230rwkw for $750+,
X-Force exhaust's are great, or even redback.
a mate of mine has a ba xr6t and we changed the intake to a SS inductions growler, put 42lbs injectors, full 3" exhaust dual and quad outlets with tune and that pulled just under 275rwkw on 10psi i think

An exhaust and a tune would give you an ok gain, but in the future you are pretty much looking at what I listed to go further, so just keep that in mind man

I think im gonna start with the ss inductions growler CAI. Can anyone recomend a shop in brisbane or sunshine coast to see about the tune. Also i have heard that all i need is to remove the center muffler of the stock exaust to free it up and that will be enough with the tune and CAI is this true ??

For Brisbane, see Real Dyno Performance.

A growler intake will cost you $500ish posted to your door. Installation takes about 45 minutes ( Will need to drill 4 holes ). Will sound amazing with it on.

Go for an XFORCE twin 2.5" cat back exhaust, with a 3" or 4" VENOM 100cpsi Cat. This cost you about $650-$800 (depending on which cat back you go for).

Then go in for a custom dyno tune. You will see a nice amount of power increase, while not affecting reliability at all.

SS Inductions = WOFTAM. F6 Lower snorkel FTW, save ~$400 while your at it.

See East Coast Customs for a tune, they are currently running a special, $1100 for an XCal3 + Custom tune.

Save more cash before modding it to make it worth while.

If you want your car half f!cked when you get it back, feel free to go to ECC...

Not trying to sound like a prick or anything, but they have bad rep for doing sh!t work.

And I know about 6-7 of the guys here at work that have had nothing but problems with ECC. But then again, I've heard the good and the bad about them. They do great fabrication work, but are supposivedly horse sh!t with tuning.

the standard trans cooler is part of the radiator, these have been know to split and mix coolant with trans fluid, then the transmission dies. seen it many times....
as for performance mods, injectors cooler and a tune will see you in the high 200rwkw bracket, add a highflow cat and you should just about touch 300rwkw. the standard exhaust will make ~320rwkw.
