Im assuming, due to the nature of the boost source, that a turbo would be better in terms of fuel economy. but from what i have been told, its the other way around...
basically, im just kinda confused about what the fuel economy would be like on a N/A vs Supercharged Vs Turbo'd car... ??

it all has to do with volumetric efficency... basically the amount of air you can get into the cylinder to maximise the amount of fuel burnt during the combustion stroke. any positive charge system will improve this over a n/a engine. turbos if not matched right can impede exhaust gases causing there to be less oxygen in the cylinder but have the advantage of not drawing power from the engine, superchargers dont have this problem and have the the bonus of compressing air from a lower rpm improving efficency from the start, that said... a good tune can make all the difference

so what you are saying is that its very much a case by case thing? your cant make a generalisation that turbos are better then supercharger or vice versa... for fuel economy....

people will argue for weeks on it lol
but yea either system with a good tune will both increase power n torque and and will improve fuel efficiency... but with increased power the car... ( usually because of the driver ) will consume more fuel... confusing yea? imagine the amount of fuel going into the cylinder on a N/A car... some fuel wont be burnt and will pass through the exhaust to the atmosphere, this is because there isnt enough air to burn the fuel ( fire needs Oxygen ), so by compressing air in the intake system more air is forced... ( instead of being sucked in by the downward movement of the piston on the intake stroke ) into the cylinder meaning there is less wasted fuel. but we have a tendancy to put our foot down more often when we've got the power there ( cause its more fun ) so we use more fuel... the tune is the most important thing with forced induction systems to achieve the best power and fuel usage |

The air is compressed which makes it more dense..
Too many things come into play here.. A high-compression turbo engine driven and tuned right could be very fuel efficiant.. One thing with blower is it's always there being turned.. Don't get wrong I like all types of forced induction.. If the N/A car had to be driven to keep up with forced induction cars .. There wouldn't be much difference in fuel consumption.. Diesels are a prime example.. The turbo engines have way better economy..
