as above is it normal for a turbo to stop spinning at idle,its a gt4094 from snort perfomance, If i blip the accelerator it will start spinning and then slowly stop again.just want to makesure it isnt blown or anything as everyones told me its normal because its a big turbo etc

On my BA it still spins down for about 15 secs after i turn it off.
Something seems odd with yours. Like mentioned it should always be spinning whilst the cars running.

Interesting but I would have thought that because it is driven by the exhaust gas being pushed through the turbo the should even at idle other wise where are your exhaust gas's going.
I was curious so i went out and puller the air cleaner of our turbo and it spins at idle and also when you turn off the engine its spins for a few seconds as well. I would think the size would have anything to do with the fact its not spinning at idle, like I said think about it the exhaust (hot side) is spinning from exhausted gas and the intake side (cold side) is on the same shaft. Unless the exhaust side also doesn't spin at idle. ( the mind boggles) There are a few very smart guys on here I am sure they will be able to answer your question more technically. Cheers

I was that curious I rang a guy who plays with turbos for a living he said- " it's possible if the size of the rear housing it to big for the exhausting gas, but he also said it should move if you just increase the throttle a slight bit" He was surprise to hear about your turbo and said he would have though it would be spinning at idle, he also ask the brand name. He asked this because he has see a Chinese turbo that had a miss match hot size wheel to housing it allowed the gas to bypass the wheel but that turbo was very slow to come on to boost and didn't make power. He thought you need to go see a mechanic that works on turbos and get it looked at ASAP ( could fail and cause damage to the engine) Cheers

its a garret,if i just tap the accelerator itl spin again and it makes boost but feels very lagy,exhaust housing is quite big 4" dump pipe connects to it

Sounds like there is exhaust gas managing to make it past the wheel without spinning it. Exhaust leak, cracked housing, leaky wastegate?

What are the turbo specs ?? A large turbine housing will do this !!
Plus leaking wastegate.. Retarded timing and turn idle up will assist in spooling turbo .. It could be very lean at idle also... If there's buggerall play in shaft side to side and in out.. There's no oil in compressor or exhaust as smoke ?? It spools ok?? I wouldn't worry too much.. If it has 77mm wheel 76 trim ?? yes it will slow to a stop .. esp with standard-sh cam..

thank you guys honestly when your only 18 your first build and your turbo stops spinning at idle i thought okay blown turbo,the turbo is very big gt4094 im not sure why so big but yeah.im getting a j3 chip and putting in my 42lb injectors and then should be okay,dont want to drive it with it pinging

setup is snort stage 3 kit with gt4094 turbo,4"dump pipe into 3" exhaust.im going to use 42lb with a j3 and keep the boost low till i get a haltech or some sort of computer.ive got a 1.3mm headgasket to put in once the standard headgasket lets go.what do you reckon the 42's will max out at

I would 46lb might be on until you start to play with boost and as we all do start to add power products it s virus once you start. Cheers
