Talk to {DESCRIPTION}, they might be able to supply parts, or rebuild it for you.

Cheers

It isn't something you can DIY, the turbo needs to be balanced. Are there any performance workshops in Tasmania?

Apparently if you keep the wheels in the same position that they came off the shaft you don't have to balance it, but i don't know if i trust that idea, when you consider how fast these things spin!

If anyone is keen, have a read of this webpage: {DESCRIPTION}

I got my Garret T04 rebuilt by MTQ, i think it was about $950 parts & labor. Looks & feels like brand new again.

Cheers

is it a roller bearing turbo?

bush bearing turbo's can be DIY rebuilt, i've done 2.

roller bearings arn't so straight forward.

yep as John said, bush bearing isn't such a drama.
worst case scenario is you get the wheels balanced at a cost of $50-$60.
but roller bearings are best left to a shop

How do i tell

Ive pulled it apart and between the intake side and the oil part theres like a bearing thingy then a copper or brass oil gallery thingy also theres a metal thingy like a disk thats got like a taper on one side

then the shaft slides into a cylinder thats brass/copper like in the oil/ middle part of turbo that looks like its held in place by surclips on either side and has oiling holes

any ideas which it is????

sounds to me like a plain bush bearing turbo.

the other issue is finding a rebuild kit to suit that turbo.

there are so many different 'versions' of each turbo you need to find the one with the right bearing/thrust collar/seal combination.

see if you can find out where it was purchased from and ask them if either they know of anyone that sells rebuild kits or ask if it is a direct copy of a garrett.
from my experiances with some of the knock offs you can still use the same rebuild kits and even housings. but depends on the turbo

If its a proper garrett T04z it should be a dual ball bearing one.

garrett turbos will have garrett or honeywell, or older turbos Air research either on the tag or on the fron thousing.
some also have detroit diesel.
so can be a bit confusing but they're easy to spot
