G'day crew,

Had a bit of a search around, i know the subject has come up before but i'll be stuffed if i can find the thread.

Just wondering what is involved with swapping compressor covers on the 35 series Garrett turbo's. At the moment i have a .5 cover and am wanting to swap to a .7 cover purely for the bigger intake. Is this at all possible to do and is it a straight forward 'bolt-on' modification or is there a bit more to it than that? I remember someone telling me that the backing plate needs to be changed also, but wheather this is fact or not, i'm not sure.

Any light that can be shed on the subject, i'd be greatly appreciative.

Pretty sure it just bolts on. Ive had both apart before but never attempted to swap them over. Nothing seemed different from what I recall.

A guy did this on the XR6T site ages ago and found that his setup boosted slightly earlier with the .5 housing and made the same power.

He left the .5 housing on it after the tests.

you will require the backing plate also to suit the .70 compressor cover

other then that they are direct fit

Really? Okay, i didn't think it was straight forward and changing the backing plate isn't an easy job by the looks of it. But i swear i have read on the XR6Turbo forum that people have changed the covers straight over without changing the backing plate :?

the backing plate is not hard to change over mate you need good pair of pointed pliers ( large cir-clip)

every gt35/40 i have worked with requires the backing plate to be changed over to suit the .70 cover
