Hi Folks.
I just bought this: {DESCRIPTION} And I already have an EL motor in brilliant condition in the shed. I also have an all the bits from an EB/ED motor here. (log manifold etc) I payed more than I wanted to for that M90 supercharger for two reasons. 1. It isn't from a commodore... the housing looks mustangish. 2. It has the inlet and outlet adaptors already built and ready and I had previously expected to have to make or buy them myself. No, I am pretty sure that with the pics I found here from the guy that already did this, that I can make the relevant brackets myself, and probably the piping too. (plan to add an intercooler etc later, initially it will be water cooling.) The main thing I didn't know about, is how to get the charger onto the serp belt of the EL? Basically I guess what I am asking, is "is there a longer serp belt than the EL has, that would allow me to go round the blower pulley as well? Also, assuming I can make the brackets and stuff myself.. what else do I need to do low boost (figured I'd start around 8ish and go from there) I have no doubt that I'll have no issues with an intercooler when the time comes.. but what else need I worry about? any thoughts would be much appreciated. rgds Franki Last edited by frankieh on Tue May 20, 2008 8:39 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

If it is to go into your EA, i would use the MPFI manifold. a member here has a NC fairlane with a m90 on it. he welded some alloy blocks to the top on the MPFI manifold and tapped them so the M90 can bolt onto the top of it.

yeah.. I have all his photos to go from.
I don't think mounting it is my biggest prob.. I can do that fine, I'm more concerned with getting the belt setup working and working out what else I'd need for a 6-8psi setup. rgds Frank |

pretty sure alonger belt is easy to do
iirc the local auto1 had a measuring tool that u out your old belt on and it would tell you what belt u needed so all u would have to do is work out the extra length you need ( use some non elastic string or tape ) by running it around your pulleys then take that length to a auto shop and ask for that belt u might be lucky to find say a 5.0 will fit i did read some where on here that there are extended belts avail for cars like this maybe even try asking raptor sc what belts they use and go from there?

brought my gatorback out of the states they are available in half inch lengths up to about 3.5 meters more than enough will take some picks of mine for ya using all au , including tensioner the extra is im also using the manual adjuster of the ed air con setup with a serp pulley to fine tune the tensioner posi and give good belt wrap for the charger

belts come in heaps of sizes. but the uncommon long ones you'll be paying for - e.g. the 6pk3015 or what ever CAPA use retails for $180.00.

My concerns initially are probably irrelevant.. but if there is no low pressure in my intake manifold courtesy of the supercharger, how do the vacuum assisted brakes work? also the heater vacuum controls?

take the vaccum from BEFORE the charger or fit a small vaccum pump

M90's are throttle before charger.
The brakes have a check valve in em for the booster. thus when the throttle is closed there will still be vacuum. as for the other controls.... never really though about it, isn't there a vacuum canister that holds vac for them?

Mine plug into the back of the tree.. I've never seen any such canister...
I think I understand now.. with the throttle butterfly between the charger and the intake.. there would still be a vacuume when the butterfly isn't wide open.. |

At trailing throttle the SC bypass valve opens relieving boost, and there is vacuum in the manifold. As Gaz said the brake booster has a 1-way valve so it never gets positive pressure, just vaccum at trailing throttle (when it's needed!). I saw the vacuum tank for the HVAC controls when I took my AU's dash out to replace the heater core. Can't remember exactly where it is though, it may be under the dash near the heater box. Pretty sure it has a 1-way valve too. The only thing you'll need to relocate to before the 'charger is the PCV hose that plugs into the intake just before the throttle body.
