hi i just got a turbo from a ba xr6t.
just wondering wat size head gasket i should put on there to drop the compression. any help would be much appreciated. thanks |

with a good tune 9.3:1 compression shouldn't be a problem, i wouldn't change the gasket at all

yea, and also remember camshafts affect the dynamic compression of your engine, so can effectively make an engine similar to to a decompressed one... what cam you gonna use?? how much power you want?

Especially at low rpm the overlap where inlet and exhaust is open at the same time, bleads off compression... Cams however that are turbo friendly usually have wide lobe centres, [very little overlap]....Opening up quench area [to much] can cause detonation in big bore engines...You should be able to make 260 wkw with 9.2 comp...With good ecu/ tune... A .060 head gasget will drop comp enough also but as I said its opening quench area....

yea, your static compression figure is based on the cylinder being 100% filled with air. If you have valve overlap (every cam does) then you can affect the amonut of air being trapped in the cylinder, which affects the cylinder pressure

if you were going to the point of taking the head off. you'd be better off with a thinner gasket (AU metal gasket) and modifying the chamber to lower compression.
pay attention to area around the valves and you'll improve flow while you're at it. |

theres a wade 1004 in it atm.
i wanna get decent power but realise i cant get to hardcore. so yeh just new to all this so im learning as i go... |
