Any ideas on how the head is gonna like this? They're made of a relatively soft alloy yeah, so even though u may be able to torque the life out of the nuts/studs will the head hold up?
If its already been asked... gfy |

Heads become soft when the engines been overheated. I torqued the head bolt to the extreme with a 1m bar and the washer did not sink into the head at all. With a good head I dont think this is an issue plus the washer/nut setup has a good surface area. But we are not torquing the bolts anywhere near as much as tested but if need be 100lb/ft on the head stud is no problem with this setup IMO.
I got this idea when reading an article on the Nizpro 1000hp BA turbo setup. They used 1/2" studs into the same e series thread (same as BA). The hard bit was getting the right thread and bolts to fit. The bolts for the BA are shorter. Tarahymen I will email bank details.

Your grandmother could install these head studs, thats how easy it is.
The process goes as follows Fill all head bolt holes in block with oil Place head on block, located with locating rings/dowel With the 180mm long tap supplied, grease up with grease to catch cut metal. Place tap in head bolt hole till touches old thread in block With tap T Bar start turning tap slowly 1/2 turn at a time and then backing off and at the same time pushing down firmly untill tap has reach bottom of thread Voila easy as. Should take around an hour Here are a couple of pics If anyone further is interested in a set then PM as this bolt order goes in this coming Tuesday 13/2/07

The order is being done this Tuesday 13/2/07. The same could be done with the mains but I dont think its really necessary unless you are putting major horsepower thru the engine, something like maybe 800+ ATW.
Remember the inline 6 has alot more caps than say a v6 and thats a major reason why straight 6s a quite strong in that department. My 500+RWHP Turbo Torana runs heads studs but standard mains and never a problem with either. But head sealing is a problem with most highly boosted engines and my experience is that a good head gasket and studs usually solves that problem.

with or without o-ringing the block in your opinion?

with the AU Multi layer steel shim head gasket definately no need to O ring the block. But you want really smooth surfaces on the deck and head faces.
Only need O rings with using copper. AU MLS and head studs is all we will ever need. That is what Nizpro uses on his 1000hp BA turbo engine

Sorry, I should have been clearer but basically Nizpro used BA multi layer shim with 1/2 inch studs for their 1000hp BA 6 turbo motor with NO oringing

For the turbo manifold I use high grade allen key bolts with Finlock washers except for a couple that where I use modified studs. The Finlock washers work really well, never had one come loose using these.
You should be able to get the stuff at a good fastener place.

I am getting some more head studs from the states. If anyone wants a set with a long shank tap to do the tapping it works out $435 posted. This is just a one off as I gotta get some more for myself. I will be ordering again on 28/9/07.
I will also be getting some high grade flexplate bolts but not sure how well they will do the job untill I get them landed
