i disconnected the intercooler piping just before to see if i put my hand or something else up against the throttle body if it would stall or not. the engine keeps running, sucks pretty hard on my hand but shouldnt the engine just stop because theres no air, i found a thread on top of the BBM that was sucking in air which was after the throttle body so a bolt back in it so thats blocked off now.

when i put the turbo in it, will the pressurised air go out of wherever its sucking it in now?

even when i block the throttlebody with my hand where is the air coming from

if you pull ya intercooler piping off ,it will still run like a normal car ,it will just have less power ,ive ran mine before when the cooler piping has come off on the way home and i just drove it home and it was fine

i know i can still drive it, i just want to know why if i put my hand over the throttlebody to seal it up so it gets no air, why the engine keeps running.

not the engine should no run with hand over throttle body. unless there is a large vacum leak

the iac just bypasses the air around the blade, with ports on eather side of the blade in the throttle body.

put something a bit more airtight then a human hand such as a shopping bag to see if it still runs.

PCV valve or the line from the rear of the rocker cover to the intake?

my hand is pretty airtight, no holes in it. did have a nail right through once.
anyway. i dont have the line connected to the back of the rocker cover, but i can feel a very light vacuum out of that, the pcv valve is fine, ive got the boost gauge connected and at idle it reads at about -20

if it had a large vaccum leak whats the symptoms and wouldnt it make the engine idle higher? because it idles at about 700 which i think is normal. ill have another look tomorrow.

i just dont want to get the ecu tuned and then find out it was a little problem and have to get it retuned.

open your oil filler cap. if it feels like a lot of air rushing out. its either blow-by or worn valve guide stem.

i say pcv valve aswell..

if you block the throttle body the only other place it can get air from is through the pcv..(unless you have a manifold leak)
with idle vacuum the pcv will be open but under throttle or boost it should close..

try block off the pcv hose and put your hand over the throttle body and it should stall...
thats the only thing i can think of!

I had another look today, and pulled out the hose and put my finger on the pcv and it was sucking hard i blocked that and the throttle body off, then my mate put his fingers over the rear hole on the rocker cover and the one that the pcv sits in, it kept running even when i gave it some revs.

from my knowledge the intake manifold has never been taken off so the gasket wouldnt be gone would it?

Re torque all the bolts on the induction side or listen for any hissing sound out of the ordinary when you block the T/B.

When you block the T/B on a normal healthy engine, it feels like its going to suck the Palm of your hand in. it can be scary when you pull your hand away before it stalls, especially if you add some revs

either worn intake valve giudes or leaking around the T/B or isc.

squirt oil around the intake gasket and see if the car blows smoke, indicating a leak
