You haven't even told us what power levels you are expecting and how you would prefer the car to drive. Untill you tell us then the ideal turbo could be anywhere from a GT 12 garrett right through to a pair of turbonetics super thumpers.
So let us know how much power you would like, where would you like it to start making boost from and how much of a torque spread you want. A book I reccomend for the basics is called "thermodynamics, an engineering approach" by cengel and bowles. That will give you a fair understanding of what you can and can't do with air. Then once you know what it can do, go and read "maximum boost" by corky bell. Once you get your head around the maths you can determine what you need from interperetting compressor maps. And likeDansedgli, my advice is free but if you want a purchase, hopes and dreams won't cut it but, good old Aussie dollars will. |

Well i've got a fairly stock engine apart from, zorst, CAI, tune & also a 3K stallie.
Would probably end up doing the head & cam along with the turbo upgrade. So for now anything up to 300KW with stock bottom end & ECU would be awesome. Not looking at spending much but what ever i can get out of a turbo & pretty much stock motor. By the way at least your comment poses a possibility of moving forward... What exactly did DansEDGLi comments give me except grief. I did explain at the start that my question was a newbie question. |

300rwkw out of a stock AU motor would be a bit of a push. didn't Dansedgli bend rods at around 250rwkw

How did Dans post give you nothing but grief. He suggested you call a supplier. And you suggested that he order in the part then pay him after the part gets delivered. That reeks of 17 year old 'dreamerism'. Its a common theme throughout most forums today and its poisoned most of this website. Hence the hopes and dreams comment.
Personally I think 300kw with the standard issue 4 speed auto is a recipe for mechanical disaster. And to make the 300 reliably involves a bit more than the simple boost and fuel bolt on upgrades. TROYMAN's ed makes 260-270 on 12 psi and the one of the many reasons it does so is because his cam aint stock. With a stock cam I reckon he'd be limited to around 230 at that boost level. I may be wrong here but I'm jjst doing rough sums in my head on a groggy sunday morning. Remembering that auto's sap more power than manuals I reckon 220-240 would be a realistic reliable goal for you provided you know how to drive sedately. Drive like you drive a holden (brick on the accellerator and jerk the steering wheel to break the back end loose) and you'll kill the thing even with a measly 150-170 at the wheels. really you should be asking what other people run and when does boost come on with their set up etc, and 300 kw on a stock au bottom end will bend a rod like dansedgli has had happen with his au, unles you put stronger rods in and drop the compression you wont see that much without breaking s**t, and the trans wont hold up for long, you can turn the firmness of the shift up so theres less slipping between gears but eventually your going to blow it anyway, you may get a turbo charged falcon running 300 kw for say 5-6 thousand lets just say, but if more money isnt spent on the car in other vital places it wont be reliable and it will cost you more from the f**k than it will to just build it to handle the power you want reliably from the start,

In saying that there is a limit to the strength of the engine when its pushed to its limits.. and also mate you wont get 300rwkw with a standard ecu.... thats like nearly 400hp. The least you will need is a J3 chip to remap the standard ecu and bigger injectors and fuel pump cause the stock hardware will not support anything near that. See jason at T.I performance about a chip. If you have the funds buy an aftermarket ecu

How long did that combo last and how does he drive it. I can port the s**t of my head, fit the most agressive cam on earth in there and wind the wick right up. Probably make 5-600hp at the wheels for ine dyno run then feather it everywhere I go, and it would last an easy 800,000kms.

I'm running 15psi ~ 282rwkw now on a stock motor. I was running 17-18psi and a bunch more timing when the rod went. It would have been 310-320 at a guess. This guy needs to do a search. All this stuff has been covered a billion times. |

So you just guessed and thought it would be a good idea to make like it was a fact in the tech section.
Well done bro. Ive got a thread on here too, you don't need to be a member on boosted. |
