OK, newbie question time...
How do you calculate all the A/F's or A/R's & all them other numbers to properly match a turbo to your engine application? This question is a repeat from Fritz's EL Build Thread, however it was pointed out to me that i should make up my own topic/thread rather than hijack someone else's. So new comments, opinions facts etc definitely welcome. By the way my car is a Ford Fairlane with VCT 4.0L |

I'm pretty sure it was suggested that you do some searching and check the Garrett website. Not make a new thread.

Well back to my original question...
As a whole how do you work out what turbo, compressor inlet & compressor outlet specs to use on a vehicle (in this case my vehicle I6 VCT) ? Looking at all the different turbo models on the Garrett website was fun but in reality they all got very confusing as it really didn't answer my question. So if for argument sake i wanted to buy a turbo tomorrow... 1) What size turbo do i buy? 2) what size inlet compressor should i get with it? 3) what size outlet compressor should i get with it? 4) Do i go wastegate or non-wastegate (If thats at all possible)? 5) Oil cooled is standard, should i also opt for water cooling as well or is that standard too? 6) Is there anything else i should be looking for (In regards to specs/features etc) that i may have missed? |

In reality if you were ready to buy a turbo but were unsure of this kind of stuff you should probably be looking at a kit. One of the site sponsors, Snort Performance, sells exactly this kind of thing.
If you gave him a budget and a desired outcome he would be able to give you a kit to match. |

You need a gt35r with 40305 ar compressor turbines.

Thats exactly where i would buy my turbo from. i had a look at his website & seen a stage 2 kit for $4K. 5t's within my budget, but he only specifies a GT40 Turbo & doesn't specify the more detailed specs (which i assume is buyers choice). Hence, my original question |

Hence, my original question As far as I know the kits aren't complete. I think intercooler piping you need to sort and also tuning solutions such as ecu, fuel pump, injectors and a tune. You have to take into account for this side of things as it will quickly eat up your budget so make sure you do full research so you know what your in for before you begin your project

I am not soo worried at this stage about all them things, at this stage i just want to "try" to work out what spec'ed turbo i should buy. It's as if i asked the wrong question to some I mean seriously this is a forum & if we as members cant ask a question without getting any sort of negative feedback then its a bit of a deterrent. I don't mind negative feedback as long as its constructive, but attacking someone without any cause is a waste of time. Well anyways, i've got my heart set on this little setup, so its just a matter of time & dollars for me. By the time the dollars arrive i should be a little more clued up as to what spec'ed turbo i should opt for (with a bit of luck that is). I don't want to go too overboard either, i ain't going to be entering any dyno comps. But a nice quick & solid car is what i am hoping for by the end of this. |

Look into a T04Z which is bigger than Gt3540 with larger cra and T04 turbine..
Yes you'll require an external wastegate, which works better anyway.. On a manual I would use .84 AR on an auto I would run a larger A.R as converter helps spool much better.. http://gcg.com.au/ If thats too over your badget?? Look into Master Power T64.. http://www.quickspool.com.au/default/802304.html This will give you SOME idea also... The longer the line stays on middle island the better.. http://www.squirrelpf.com/site/?page_id=7/

If it fits in the engine bay without cutting up the bonnet, then its too small.
