For anyone interested to know the reals reasons, Ford went to an aluminium tailshaft because it absorbs more vibration than a steel item which makes the ride seem smoother.

What does this has to do with the car feeling smoother?

ok i no, this ,might sound dum, but jus for a little fun, what will it take to get a i6 reving to say 8000-9000rpm???

id suggest de-stroking it, you need to consider piston speeds....

de-stroking is quite a real option, i know of atleast two 4l's that were destoked, i know one used a 200ci crank, the other i dont have the details of, but id assume it would be the same

The EA-B-D Engines werent as good at hight RPM. Reasons included but werent limited to the Drive belts snapping and a few other things.

I heard something about EA-B-Ds good for about 5750, and EF-L's good for about 6250.

Thats factory.

Now the old 4.1 used to be good only to 4500-5200. There were guys who did stock car racing that used to put roller cams in them and run them at 7500 for whole meets. But I guess thats a little extreme.

I take my VCT to 6500 regularly. Am in the process of building another motor, that will see 7000+ (only reason for rebuild is more power)

ACL races series Pistons, ARP rod bolts, King bearings, true roller timing chian kit, balanced and blueprinted. Will be running 10.2:1 comp, CMS stage III cam. Plus a custom edit on the ECU to regraph the ignition timing to suit the LPG. Am looking for around the 160 to 170kw at the treads

can i ask why you would want to rev it that high? 160 to 170 is doable withing 6000RPM and it would be a much friendlier car to drive too

they cop the s**t. My ea paddock basher was on the limiter for about 5 hours of abuse the only thing that stopped us that night was a split rad hose it was on boiling for most of the time too.

its very hard to kill a i6, most of the time other things will die out before the motor has the chance to blow(raditor hoses, drive belts, diff etc;)
if an motor is kept in good condition, always serviced, you can flat stick the accelerator all the time and still have the motor in good conditon, how ever the gearbox will eventually die which actualy cost more then the motor it self.
its 3.32am and thats all i can be botherd typing atm, thats my 2c worth,
