No they don't. The rods are too weak for a decent serving of boost. i got to ask?? what would you consider a decent serving of boost???? A mate killed one on 6psi, another on 12psi, both tuned, ED bottom end on 15psi = still going after 1.5years o k im currently running 12 psi@ 6000rpm...(stock bottom end) and previous to this it was 10 psi and had a poor tune, pinging ect.. its been a year so far and still good.. i have heard that the au rods are not as strong as they are longer than e series??.. but i think it would have to be pumping out some fairly high hp before they will fail... and ive also heard that ba rods are just as week?? and there are ba turbo's pushing up to and over 270rwkw.. |

Anyone have an opinion on the hybrid 6 for the task? I'm guessing it's got e series rods/crank

A usefull maybe useless fact, ba mk11 turbo motors and beyond run the gas bottom end. Stronger rods etc.
190K km's is nothing. Turbo charge it and do it right then get a safe tune and enjoy the boost |

theres a good thread on hybrids somewhere on here, i was semi-sure they used the longer rod.
it's not so much the length of the AU/BA rods that makes them weak either, i would guess they were probably trying to pull some weight out of the piston/rod for lighter rotating assembly and improvements in balance and hence NVH? theres a pic somewhere with an E-Series rod next to an AU/BA rod, the difference in strength is fairly obvious.

Rods are not a distance durability problem..
Its rings, bearings and valve gear... Durability of the std AU rods can be an issue over 270 / 330 rwkw.. Keep in mind A.U engines have higher compression... So turbo engines are NOT going to take the same power / boost... But with 10 to 15Lb they are very throttle responsive off boost due to higher compression...
