Hey, i have an AU xr6 series 2 manual, with 114xxx ks, and i want boost.. lol
Im torn between the raptor kit, turbo kit and a ba turbo engine and box.. What would be the most reliable (as i travel pretty often) and the least pain for my wallet lol.. Also is a BA turbo engine a bolt in for an AU.. ive heard it is and ive heard it isnt, anyone be able to shed some light on this, Thanks heaps.. |

BA motor can be made to fit physically without too much drama, its the wiring which is generally the PITA.
I'd go for a Snort Performance turbo kit and run low boost (7-10psi). You'll need to factor in the price of kit which is about 3k, then add cooler, fuel pump, reg, tuning, then someone to install it all if you cant, upgraded clutch... If you spend the $$ on fueling and tuning it will be very reliable, just dont give third gear a hard time too often. Whats your budget? |

5k for a second hand kit? Have a look at Snorts site to see what you can get for that brand new
3rd cogs pretty weak in general, it'd pay to get hold of a spare box. 'Apparently' theres a workshop doing BA turbo motor conversions for 6500 or something I dunno its all been hearsay from a 17 year old so far. So can you fit the turbo gear? if so you've got a pretty good budget to get everything done right the first time. |

Bruce heinrich does it for 6500 ish. I've asked him as well.
I'm keeping the sohc stuff my for mine this time though. I figure I'm better off with shiny new stuff for cheaper even if it doesn't make power as easy, it will still make 300 eventually. No issues with aircon or cruise control this way either. You can flash tune an au too. |

take that 6.5k sell the AU for 10K and then use that to try get a BA turbo..otherwise just go for a Snort or Raptor kit.
Pretty sure you won't get the dvct working on the BA engine on an AU without running a aftermarket ecu or similar. Last edited by deanxr on Tue May 04, 2010 5:32 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

Pretty sure you won't get the DOHC working on the BA engine on an AU without running a aftermarket ecu or similar. Pretty sure your an 18yr old with not much of an idea on how this works. You can get the full features of the BA motor running by using a BA ECU with a flash tune disabling security.

But things have changed since then. Run the stock ECU and it runs like a stock BA.
