what are ya thoughts

My thoughts are, that you managed to beat mother nature in the high-stakes game of evolution.

No doubt, this has already been established by the FM community, and me pointing it out certainly won't enlighten anyone, except for maybe yourself.

However, despite my thoughts, I am going to share my idea for a possible solution to your problem. Mind you, this solution is not ideal in any way, but it is, by far, the cheapest to set up.

What you need to do, is pull apart your power steering pump. Once you've done that, sand down the vanes a smidge or two. Could do the same to your vane wheel as well. Put the whole thing together again, and your pump should whirr and make noises not too dissimilar from a gear drive belt. If you didn't go too crazy on the sanding, the pump should work fine, and make noise. Mind you, it is likely that you will have to replace it every couple of years or so, and no doubt your steering rack won't like it much either.

ahha our commodore sounded fulli sick when our power steering was going...this woudl be the cheapest way! great idea blackjack!

Who are you calling an aussie? Where I'm from its the aussies that want to make all the big tough sounds with s**t mods on their cars. Like Pulling out a spark plug lead or 2 to simulate a lumpy cam or Holes punched through the stock muffler and cutting the tip off then bragging to everyone that your car has a full sick drag racing exhaust setup that dumps off before the diff.

Read steedy's post. Theres a reason why overhead cam engines don't run gear drives. Plus look at the heavy hitting Jap 6's. over 1000hp in some cases and still use the stock timing belt.

a thicker belt should give u a lil more noise, but your best bet is save the money its gonna cost ya and just buy a capa kit and have the real thing, on other notes the draining of fluid from power steering would work for a whining noise, i had an au and they are well known for throwing power steering switches and loosing oil and i f'n hated it, but yer u do get a sound from that, not reccomended though,...

Spray some belt grip on your belts, and they'll whine or squeel a bit.
