Just wondering what inlet temps you guys are getting after the intercooler?

Mines getting around 5 deg above and below ambient depending on how long the car has been driving. Usually 5 deg under whwn i start up in the morn and in the hotter avro's its around 5deg over.

I'm thinking of ways to get this temp down, as there is a big difference between 10deg and 35deg. Also looking at reducing under bonnet temps

I think mine is around the same.
I don't know if you have, but you could HPC all the pipework, to keep the hot air from the engine getting to all of the pipes, or use that heat wrap stuff on the pipes, might look dodgy though....

If you are managing discharge temps under ambient, that would mean the IC is over 100% efficient, which I thought was impossible for air to air intercooler.

The only way to get below ambient would be to use a transfer medium that was cooler than ambient. Seeing everything in the intake is at least the same temp as ambient, if the IC was 100% efficient you would only be able to get down to ambient. And as far as I was aware, generally a/a ic's have efficientcy ratings of 70-90% depending on type and brand.

If you are getting only 5 degrees above ambient, and those temps are reliable then you already have an extremely good setup. Only way I could see improving it would be adding water/methanol injection or at least a spray/mist setup for the IC.

I guess you are reading it on your lap top from ecu?? In the moring yes engine will be colder... I wouldn't worry unless temps are much higher...I find as long as I have some airflow as in moving I don't have an issue...
Some vents in bonnet to expell hot air if you want??? Facing back...

Yeah, Ive wrapped all the pipes that are under the bonnet, thermo sparayed the manifold, usuing half the standard manifold shield, heat shield over ex housing.
I'm yet to fully seal up the air box, its getting some air blown in off the fans which isnt too good... tossing up wether to mount the pod outside the eng bay somehwere, or fully seal the air box, its fed by 4in flex pipe.

Ambient temp is measured by jaycar LED display thingo, sensor on front bumper.
I tried a wterspray on the intercooler in the drivaway at idle, seemed to keep the temp stable but didnt accually reduce it.
Water/meth injection might be worth a go

My intake is outside the engine bay and takes vold air directly in through the brake hole in the front bar so it gets nice cold flowing air.

Also custom plennimum shortened underhood pipework by 80cmand has resukted in cooler temps as the air comes straight through the guard and into the plennimum instead of up and around getting all hot near the turbo.

Also inproved response time.

Stick the ambient sensor in the intake just after the pod. It's where the standard car 'ambient' temp sensors go.
Because there is always fresh air moving over it this will be the most accurate. On the bumper you are probabily picking up solar radiation.

I did the same test on my NA car with BA intake and got an average of 10-12 degrees above ambient at cruise. Under load this dropped to about 5deg. I would be suprised if you got less than this since a NA inlet track is much shorter than a turbo and there is no heating by compression.

Wolf tells me 30 degrees around town...but I'm suffering from crazy heat soak from all the warm bits...using the stock air temp sensor mounted in the BBM...going along Sydney road last week, intake temps went up to high 60's cruising at low speeds (ie 40-50 km/h). Engine temp seems to fluctuate anywhere between 90 and 96 degrees...but I will be putting in an AU thermostat (82 degree) so it runs a little cooler again (have noticed the intercooler blocks air to the radiator - as a result, factory temp guage reads quite a bit higher now).

Temps taken from Wolf hand controller.

For ecu wouldn't the temp senser be better just before throttle body? As that woulde be what the engine is using...Should be more acurate tuneing wise...

Yes, I have the air temp sensor that came with the Wolf mounted a few inches befor the TB, and the jaycar one in the bar for ambient readings.

DCstraight... thats friiiggin hot, Ive never seen more than high 30s from mine.

Looks like I will have to put a vent in the bonnet... thinking Cosworth style over the turbo.

I will get into 45degrees on a warm day with the AC on. I've never seen over 50.

In non intercooled set-ups even with low boost of around 4-6psi they are over 100degrees intake air temp...

It will keep the car running cooler, my EB never went above 72 degrees according to the wolf. Im assuming rank rotary changed the thermostat to suit as I never touched it and it was brand new when I broke my thermostat housing and had to take it out.

I never had my intake temps hooked up to check intake temps.
