I am looking at upgrades for the intake manifold on my fg, allowing for a potential turbo setup.

I was wondering what people have done DIY style, and also if anyone knows if the intake dimensions are similar across the different models of falcon. I know there are people putting fg manifolds on their N/A sixes, I was thinking of modifying older series (cast) manifolds to suit my fg... But yeah, just wanted to know what my options were apart from $1000 after market setups...

if your going to go turbo, just use the fg turbo manifold its a cast log style manifold..

Well an fg one would be ideal, but short of getting one direct from ford. They are difficult to find second hand...

well if cost is an issue, just use a bf xr6t manifold (bbm with no butterflies).
otherwise there are options like nizpro, plazmaman, snort or custom made type plenums but your still looking at $1200-$1500 just for the upper manifold..

slightly different car but i have kept the std operating bbm on my au and on my ed and still made the same power as cars with custom plenums..

if your going to turbo your fg, be prepaired and be willing to spend large amounts of money on parts, reliable quality turbo s**t is not cheap !!!

Yeah I'm a tight a** lol na just an apprentice, trying to do what I can as cheap as possible. But like you said, without drastically sacrificing quality (and therefore reliability) it just can't be done on the cheap. I'm up for a ZF and LSD. So there's $3000... It's not a cheap exercise no matter how you do it...

Umm BA/BF <--> FG are interchangeable (swapping bolts - as lengths are different), but any other series? Eg the e series log manifolds? Or are they way too different to be able to fit...

And really silly question... BBM? Tried googling it so I didn't have to ask, but just came up with heaps of blackberry crap...

BBM = Broadband Manifold. There are butterfly valves in them to change the length of the intake as engine speed increases. It is in long mode (valves open or closed???) for low RPM low down torque and then as engine speed increases, this length is too restrictive, so the valves are actuated to the short mode.

long runners, low rpm= closed making the air take the long path
short runners, high rpm= open letting the air flow through short and long paths...

Getting a very cheap intake from an EA/EB/ED...

Going to see if I can modify it to suit my fg, cut the runners and weld them back on at the correcting spacing to suit the fg. I'm also assuming there will need to be modification to suit the injectors/fuel rail. Big job. But shouldn't cost much, just time and if it doesn't work out... No big lose...

Though still looking for a b/fg series manifold like we've discussed above. But I thought I couldn't go wrong with this for a bit of stuff around. Should keep me occupied at least.

Oh, btw can someone point me in the direction of someone that might know more regarding the dimensions? Eg someone that makes after market plenums on here. I was going to CNC mill up a mock flange to use as a jig, but yeah just need to centre to centre spacing, and flange bolt details if possible.

that log manifold is going to give you so many dramas its not funny..

what are you going to do about the ac pump hitting the throttle body??
in e series eg fitting a log to ef/el or xh the ac pump is lowered an inch or 2 to clear the low throttle body, need to make provisions for b series t map sensor. ect.

pissing in the wind if you ask me, you mention you want a turbo in the future, you would still be better off just using the fg n/a manifold, i guarentee it will still make more power fitting a turbo using the n/a manifold over the butchered eb log manifold..

sorry to say but it seems like your ruining a perfectly good fg..

Don't be sorry for saying that... If I didn't want your opinion I wouldn't be posting it on here for you to give your opinion. Your opinion is very much appreciated...

I was going to modify it so that the 'log' was positioned higher, more flat out from the ports rather then dipped down (if you understand what I mean). I was thinking I would be pissing into the wind with injector/fuel rail situation, but yeah... If you think it's just going to be a massive nightmare... Then I won't worry... I'll just polish them and give them to a mate for Christmas lol

Barra Motors have oval intake ports, not round like the E series/AU. Bolt pattern is also wrong.

Hmm... Very poor flow then I would assume, round through to oval.
Not much I would be able to do about that either... Hmm... Oh well, I'm getting it for nothing... So I'll have to do some more research...
