Just a topic for conversation

I installed a mist kit in my car and saw very little improvement on the Dyno and little benefit on the track. I found that it definately wasn't worth the hassle of installing + the space and weight it takes up.

What are others thoughts?
Does anyone run one with amy success?

Mine was 2 x jets from CAPPA + a custom made tank of about 3litres.

I do know that the wRX STi has a mist kit but that the water sprayed on actually is cooled even further by the aircon conderser.

Still, I'd be surprised if you got any more than just a little gain. Also, gain would go up as ambient temperature goes up.

Autospeed had an interesting article on one they made.
Titled 'The worlds best intercooler spray"
They actually had such a high pressure pump (out of an espresso machine) and such a fine nozzle, that the mist was ultra fine.
The nozzle was actually pointed forward, so as you drive it sprays in front of the intercooler, and the airflow pushes the tiny droplets onto it.
They recorded inlet temps a couple of degrees lower.
Zoom had an article on cooling intercoolers for dyno comps, tried water, dry ice, and N2O sprayed on them.
Dry ice was ultra effective (manifold temps in the negatives!!!!), but the test was on the Autosound S15, which has a V-Mount intercooler so it was easy to just slap on.
They cited that if you could hold the dry ice up against a normally mounted cooler, while still keeping airflow through it, it would be ideal.

Also, a thermo fan on the intercooler works really well too, helps with heat soak while idling at lights ect

You got any info on air intake temps Aaron?

It'd be interesting to have 2 IAT sensors, one post-compressor, pre-cooler, and another post-cooler.

Not that much details i just know mine range from 0 on a cold morning to 35 degrees on a hot day. 45 degrees if your parked at lights on a 35 degree day with aircon on.

Normal driving on most days its around 25

Like CHEF said, a thermo fan would help for the 'stopped' temps.
Judging from testing that I've read, water sprays seem to drop temps by about 5 degrees when driving.
But yours don't seem out of control anyway.
Out of interest, what was the pump used with the CAPA kit?
It might be an idea to just use the windscreen washer tank as the IC spray tank, and have the pump on a relay activated by the BBM switch (as someone mentioned in another thread), with an over-ride switch.
Would save the weight/hassle of a seperate tank.

Motor was just a windscreen motor and it worked well and spray came out quite fine fromt he CAPA nozzles i just found overall it wasn;t worth it. Hasle to fill the tank up and only lasted around 5min.

Temp's only seemed 1 or 2 degrees cooler and as mentioned i didin't have a problem with high temp to start with...

Interesting to hear some first hand experience with them.
You do it to chase more power on the dyno, or just as a little experiment?

I did it for track work to see if it made a difference at speed on the race track. Also see if it made any noticeable power difference on the road under a bit of boost.

The answer was certainly not anything noticeable.

Maybe on the dyno a few rwkw but IMO definitely not worth the effort.
More rwkw no the Dyno doesn’;t do much for me as the car breaks traction in every gear already on the dry in a straight line (well 1st – 4th at least)

Was it on permanantly aaron? Might be a little more useful to you having it come on at a predetermined level of boost... lol, i dont think 5 minutes worth is much use to anyone....
