Hey guys, just a couple of questions.
For those of you who have gone turbo, what size coolers did you manage to fit behind the EF/EL bumpers? I have an EF Fairmont and am doing some research on everything before i buy any gear. I assume there would be little difference in whats behind the EF/El bars for all the different models? Also did you guys have to cut much if anything from the back of the bumper to make it fit? Anything else you found needed to be cut? and if you guys have any pics showing how you mounted your cooler that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Craig |

i used a ba xr6t standed cooler which i moded the top pipe to the side works awsome but now changed to a 600x75x60 stanless plate..

i cut about an inch of the back of the bumper wasnt much ,everything fit pretty well !!

Thanks for the replies guys, have been looking at quite a few pictures over the last few days and have budgeted for something a bit bigger than i was originaly thinking. Im still interested to see any pics that anyone has as well!

actual size was around 730 wide i think. made up brackets from under inner headlight bolt, cut about an inch or so out of the front bar and it fits great. can run cooler piping under abs module and up inner guard for a tight fit or you can run it up the outside of abs module and in the side of the engine bay where the air box was, probably a better way of doing it... wish i thought of that when doing mine actually

Not turbo, but I had a 600 x 300mm x 3" PWR cooler which was easy enough to fit behind there. Now running a 300 x 300mm x 3" as it's all that I require.

I've seen 600x300x100mm core on an EF before.
I've got 600x300x76 on mine, little bit of trimming on a fairmont bar to get it in but not too noticable.

Alright thanks for that guys. I have been keeping an eye on coolers on ebay lately can anyone see a problem with going with a cooler thats a little bit shorter in height but keeping the same width? have seen cheap ones on there which are from memory about 700mm wide by about 180mm high. Im not sure of core thickness as this is just off the top of my head. I figure something like this would be easier to fit as its not that much taller than the opening in the Fairmont front bar... Would there be an negatives going this way?

the good think about getting the tall one is that its easier to make brackets for the top, well it looked like it for me, tho i didnt really try or think about putting a smaller one on. id imagine the shorter one should be more effective in cooling since a higher percentage of it will be exposed to incoming air, id say a good 60-70 percent of mine is hidden behind the bar and not getting any air flow. if you can get the smaller one to fit then id say its probably a better bet.

Thats the way i was thinking about it. Only about 40% of a bigger one would be getting airflow. But then there is always something i miss. Anyone else care to elaborate? Mainly interested in if there would be any big negatives in going for the shorter height one...

Yes, smaller core, less surface area to radiate heat. 180mm versus 300mm is a huge difference in front surface area. |

has anyone attempted intercooler piping without removing the battery
if so can u show me how u did it as im looking into intercooling my supercharged fairmotn but hesitating on relocating the battery
