whats better to make intercooler piping out of, not worried about how hard it is to make it out of.
whats the better choice? Aluminium Steel Stainless Steel which one gets hotter and would transfer more heat into the air. could i use the steel of some 3 inch exhausts if i gave them a really good clean and paint them up is exhaust piping too thin or thick? my dad will be welding it all together. |

Im using stainless for my setup, but i wish i went thinner with the wall thickness. Weighs a bit too much for my liking (3mm wall 3" pipe).
The only thing about aluminium is that it absorbs alot of the heat from the engine bay, though it isn't really a problem. Steel is ok to use in a budget build up, bit of paint and she'll last a while. Go stainless if your budget stretches, if not ally or mild is fine.

It is a very poor conductor of heat, but if it ever does heat up it will retain it for a very long time, quite the opposite to aluminium.

how much boost do you run, because ive seen that the aluminium is cheaper.

Only thing you have to worry about is rust.... Paint is very cheap and easy fix. No probs using steel at all, Galvanised isn't a good idea though as Zinc particles going in the motor is not good. The heat in the combustion chamber will melt it and clog up (over time..). I've done a 1600 Datto with steel, a coat of paint and 4 years on its still good.

Mine is mild steel 2 1/4 x's 2 befor intercooler than 3" to throttle body...
Yep mild steel ceramic coated..Looks like alloy.... Doesn't absorb too much heat.. I have insulation [fibreglass matt] shielding on crossover pipe as it passes behind radiator... Twin turbo... V8....

i would say alloy is the way to go.
mine is alloy all the way. it polishes up sweet as and is light cheap and dosnt hold the heat.
