Chef made a tutorial. What sort of power are you after ? Will you have enough cash to keep it on the road ? Engines, gearboxs, clutches, diffs all show there age when boosted. I'm not trying to be an a** or anything but have you thought about engineering ? You won't get insured otherwise. Standalone ECU, fuel pump, injectors, piping, fuel regulators (depending on how much boost youw ant) You might get running for cheap, but things are no doubt going to brake / start to melt (brake booster) Big brakes are highly recommended. Also a oil catch won't hurt Most people I've read about turboing theirs go for a 3" exhaust.

Xr_Fairmont, from what i gather this turbo idea is not for you.... at least for awhile
Even a quick-ish N/A setup will drain your account, let alone a turbo setup Try aim for some decent extractors and exhaust for your car first, then maybe a diff ratio change along with LSD, then a cam. This will give your car a noticable difference in performance over stock, and still will cost a couple grand. Think about things realistically, and you might progress with your car |

I didn't have enough money (still don't) when I did mine but it all come together if you shop around (especially on here) you can pick turbo stuff up everywhere. If you want to go down that path go for it but having said that it will cost you a fair bit of coin. If you don't want to spend it or you don't have it to spend don't do it. But in the end it is your choice. You can always get it up and running for cheap and do all the little things bit by bit then you can spread the cost out a bit.

i was in your shoes not oo long ago mate, did hours and hours of research on the forums about everything related to turboing the i6.
I wanted just a budget set up, good for 200rwkw so i didn't bust my gearbox and other things. If you go snort, your looking at around 5k for their basic kit installed and running, i got a quote from them. Thats just the basics, no rebuilt engine, no aftermarket ECU, no bigger injectors, just your turbo, manifold, cooler and not much more than what it takes to get that running. You can do it for cheaper though if you source the parts 2nd hand (obviously, but that will cost you roughly 2k if you get it all cheap and 2nd hand, as far as I have researched. Then you'd have to put it together yourself, else your looking at thousands for someone else to doit. Add 500 or so for an engineers certificate so you can get insurance. Then see if you can get insurance even with it, especially in NSW. My conclusion? Do up my EA keeping it NA - extractors, 2.5 cat back, 3.45 diff, cam plus lowering, rims, stereo, tint etc, and when you can afford it buy a car that is already turbo. My 2c

Consider an AU engine ?? Yes comp is high but with stand alone ecu and good tune 270 rwkw can be achieved.. BUT be aware these engines make MASSIVE torque when turbocharged!! Forget about T5 gear box!! Only the BTR will take this power with some mods.. Atleast an extra trans cooler and some tweaking to lift line pressure for quicker shifts.. The Master Power / Borge warner SX turbo's can be bought new for around $1k.. Don't even consider a Chnese turbo...
In some ways its best to get a low milage late model motor [$600 to $1200] and spend $$ on good tune etc.. They also have better rod ratio, stronger bottom end for about the $$ of a set of rods.. Another option is to fit LPG ?? So it does away with fuel upgrade you would have to do with petrol ...
