i just wanted to know what the go is with turbo LPG cars in vic? people tell me that emissions and engineering is overrated but this seems a fairly strange to me? whats involved in passing an engineering cert. and emmisions test and are they different things? i also had a guy tell me that if he gets caught al he has to do is remove the gear take it to VicRoads and away he goes again? so basically im just looking for peoples experiance as there are alot of turbo falcons out there now. cheers

Pre 86 model cars/engine combos on straight LPG are fine according to the EPA. An engineers certificate is still required but the emission testing is not needed as the car would have been released running leaded petrol and no cats.

If the car was built to run on unleaded and made before 86 then tough luck. ie the VL was made before and after 1986 but was always efi and made for unleaded petrol so the straight gas exemption doesnt apply.

Actually the VL was made in 86. The only pre 86 unleaded cars I can think of are all american cars and most Euro cars.

Put an XR6 turbo engine in your car, transfer over all the gear, ecu, exhaust, pollution gear, and you will pass an emissions test, you just got to make sure the transfer of engine, has been engineered, and you car has at least 4 wheel disc brakes.

Emissions test for a pre 89 car on LPG is a piece of piss as most of them don't even have closed loop control. Any X series SHOULD pass provided that they have a period correct engine under the bonnet.

QLD dont even do an emissions test when using original ECU, they only do engineering side of things and your right to go.
