Im having a weird issue, I have seen my fairmont boost at 9psi when i first put the boost gauge in but now the best I can get is 6. where the hell has 3 PSI gone? :(

I have checked for boost leaks and tightened all hose clamps but has got me stuffed how this can happen.

Oh just incase you dont know its a powerdyne with no intercooler.

Gauge ok? No leaks from the manifold to the gauge? Does it still feel like 9psi?

I havent actually hooked up the wires to the gauge lol. Ill check the line tomorrow hope fully thats it. It feels simular, I have been fixing a few things up like cracks in the extractors and so forth but that shouldnt effect the boost level.

hopefully its a simple fix.

have you looked at belt slip?? as a slipping supercharging belt will steal psi...

The belt is pretty bloody tight, its a mission in itself just getting it on and off. im not sure what belt slip sounds like but the guage doesnt spike eg: boost at 6 then drop quickly before i let off the gas.

i was suffering belt slip with the raptor set up and also lost 3 psi.
the only way i could tell was the black rubber powder on the bracket.

otherwise i would look at things like intake manifold gasket? are the manifold bolts all tight?

$hit, I have a fair bit of that black dust which is quite hard to get off. I have checked the mainfold bolts and they are as tight as a ducks butt.

How do we solve belt slip?

I can understand a belt slipping and loosing psi, but tbh do you think it would keep an exact constant slip at all rpm ranges to keep it a solid 6psi? Anything is possible I guess, just dont seem likely.

Dont you know exact setup but is the tensioner via spring? Or do you load it manually and lock it off with a bolt? If its a spring maybe the spring is fatigued and needs replacing and or belt is old.

There is actually a product in a can that you can spray on belts to make them "tacky" im sure it aint somthing you would use all the time but it sure as hell would help diagnose a slipping belt real fast. I use to work at an automotive store and we sold it, cant remember what brand or name.

Keep us posted :)

as for the belt slip it would only really occur as boost rises as the charger needs to overcome the pressure that would be trying to stop it. so if belt slip is the issue as above i would be looking at how old the belt is or what holds the tension on the belt..

in my case i used a lager idler pulley to give the belt more wrap around the supercharger pulley.

but im not sure on your set up, does it use the same belt for everything? or does the powerdyne use a belt on its own like the vortech??

Just a standard CAPA powedyne set up. Uses the 1 belt just likr raptors. It seems to me that the pully has enough on it to prevent slip but clearly is has due to the belt dust on the charger itself. The belt is apparently very new and doesnt have cracks in it. its very tight to get on and off so I believe its tight enough.
I have another belt same brand and number just seems shorter and would have no hope in getting it on.

oh ok looking at that maybe your std tensioner is i bit week or if you could get a belt thats about 5 or 10mm shorter? that might put more tension on the belt?? or try a larger idler pulley to get more tension.
although looking at your set up i dont think you could get a larger idler to fit??

thats what i did to help with mine,

TROYMAN,
If there is a intake restriction could that prevent the charger from boosting from its full potential?

I dont think there is an alignment issue, the charger has been on this car for years and years. From what I can hear the BOV is open on idle or no load and blow off when it is ment to. I have a spare so ill try it. Ill also secure the vac lines with cable ties to ensure a good seal.
