frankieh wrote: It is mild steel, I could actually chrome it...... We know what chrome does for heat... Do we not? Ah, what the hell, it's not going to get that hot sitting right behind the radiator fans and next to a block. It's not like you're putting the S/C on top of your extractors or anything Just give it a quick spray with Fiends answer to anything mild steel and hot... Charcoal Gray heat paint. Just look at my luverly extractors. Had to pay for the sandblasting (may just buy a kit soon, they're cheap enough) but the paint was already lying around from doing the brake calipers and hubs. Looks just like very clean old steel for months and months and months. It even sparkles in the sunshine. Ooooooo..... |

yup, I pretty much made the same decision myself.. heat paint for now..
The other thing I'm looking at since I'm putting the charger off to change the coupler shortly is to work out some way to adjust the timing easily with the charger in place for tuning purposes.. I've given it some thought and I think I have a solution that is both easy and really really handy... will details it if it works. |

Got more done on my car today than I've done in the last month...
It's in my shed and all the guards and stuff are just sitting there now.. I'm waiting on some bits, and if all goes according to plan.. I may well pull the old motor out over the long weekend and stick the SC one in. You can't be hanging any more than I am... |

Another thing I've learned from all this that I didn't know before, is that XR indicators have different shaped housings to normal falcon indicators (I thought the only diff was the clear pattern). so now I've left with looking for XR versions or modifying normal ones to suit. (rounding the front corner at the very least.)

ok... that doesn't look very hard.... will have to do for now as I don' have a spare 100 bucks floating around for a pair of Xr6 indicators at the moment. just want to get the bar mostly done so I can take it off and put it aside till after the rego and supercharger are done.
Thanks for your assistance mr ash |

Spent all day working on the new car... gave both bodies the once over and decided the new one was far and away the better of the two..
Once that was decided I looked at the motors and found that the new one is in very good nick.. no significant cylinder difference in compression, no smoke, no blow back.. highish oil pressure.. and lumpy as hell to boot. After making those decisions.. I ripped all the good bits out of the old EL (AU seats, door trims, center console and looms etc and put them in the new one.... looks a million times better now. (actually can't stop staring at the interior.. the two tone black and grey seems to work really well... dash, seats, carpet and roof all black.. door trims and scuff panels etc are grey.. as is the main part of the center console... the stereo surround and selector surround are both black. works really well.. will take photos tomorrow. Still have to put the 18 inches on... had a look underneath and the car seems to have Lovells finest in there... don't think it's as low as I'd want it.. but we'll see... if it isn't.. I still have a full set of superlows here. oh, found a shift kit for the auto floating around in the passanger kick panel...haven't tested it yet. This new car speeds things up now as all I have to do is pull off the intake manifold and bolt the supercharger under it... no motor change etc... once the rego is handled.. I'll do exactly that. good stuff. |
