When the dash is out, there should be a small connector around or above the pedal box that is bridged with a plug, that is the cruise control clutch switch for manuals. I can get a pic of the plug and its position if you need it. BTW please hurry up this is agony for the rest of us... :D and someone else might just beat you.

Wicked thread frankieh. If you haven't made one for yourself, you should grab a firewall strengthener off fiend whilst he's sending you that shifter! Bloody good piece of kit that...

Agony for me too... but getting close to the change over now.. I want to have the pedal box in and all hooked up ready for the change over.. so I only have to worry about external stuff when the time comes and the head will be sent off this weekend, (because people on this list convinced me it was better to do the usual suspects on the engine (guides/chains/gaskets) prior to putting it into the car rather than after when they blow in the car... since I could't argue with the logic, I had to concede...
When it all gets back, it all goes in the car in one hit.. will be an interesting week that one. I think at first it will just be direct plumbed without intercooler and only about 6psi.. just to get it running and sort out the details.. then I'll do the custom airbox and water to air intercooler I have in the cupboard here once I can measure everything.

Thanks for the details re the cruise switch... I should be able to work it out from there...

thanks mate.. shipping is probably prohibitive.. and I have a mig and steel up the wazoo here... I've already reinforced the manual pedal box.. will do the firewall while the dash and pedal box is out.. (I'm thinking of putting a steel plate on the inside of the firewall as reinforcement since the direction of movement is inwards that would be better from a bracing perspective.. (plus I'm really tring to make it look as factory as possible under the bonnet so hiding everything is better.)

In regards to bracing the inside of the firewall, that's were i placed my reinforcing. My LPG installer drilled the LPG Injection loom hole too close to the clutch hole & right thru two factory spot welds that are needed to stop the firewall tearing (well at least try stop it lol). I tapped my firewall back into shape, welded up the tear, then fit a 100x45x3mm plate across the firewall just under the hole for the clutch. Then i welded up a shorter 50x45x3mm plate ontop the clutch hole, both on the dashboard side so you can't see them at all.

No flex or tearing there anymore. It's so good i managed to bend my reinforced peddle box. Need to make a better one i think.

Cheers

yeah.. I want to go overboard so I never have to worry about it again.... it's not a fun job pulling out your dashboard.

I was thinking of making a plate with a U in it so it fit around the clutch hole... nice and strong, support the whole area and be hidden.

Man, that's a good buy! I paid twice that for my complete ED GLI manual! It had very low kms, so it was still a good buy considering i got the proper ecu, proper gearbox loom & so on.

Cheers

I didn't want the ECU since I'd be putting an ED ecu into an EL... but I have my tickford ecu and I'll be putting a J3 into it anyway.. (hoping to have a gas and a tickford XR map on it (switchable))

Image

Incidently.. one of our own on here (xbgt2dr) started his own wrecking company here in Perth and he really looks after me... I kept him secret for a while cos I wanted all his goodies.. but the only thing left for me to get right now is a 3.45 lsd diff and he's promised to save me the next one. :-)

Mr Stephen from Slik Auto wrecking in Willetton WA ph (08) 6162 9529. He knows his fords and from my experiance is cheaper than any other mob I've dealt with anywhere.

He is building himself an amazing XF ute actually.. when i first saw it I thought he was a nutter,, there was literally more rust than steel.... but it looks like it just rolled out of ford now.. (I only saw it in primer but it was an amazing job considering there wasn't a single panel on the whole car that didn't need serious work back at the start....

I should add that I am in no way at all related to mr Steve other than a customer and mate.
I met him by winning one of his ebay auctions (for a climate control module I think) I'm mentioning him here because he really looked after me and was under no obligation to and I think he could be of use to others here. God knows nearly all the good resources for ford people are over east so it's good to have one over here in Perth for a change.

Anyway.. if you need E series stuff and you're in Perth... call mr steve... he is one of us.. (so is his brother from memory.)

oh, incidently, the billet shifter I bought from Mr Fiend arrived today.. good stuff...
