I have copper head gaskets and O ringed heads..[ V8 engine ]
This was before Cosmetic or MLS gaskets where available..
I have NO leaks !! But it MUST be done right..
I used [forget brand?] 3 bond ?? silicon sealer on each surface. Applied with finger and used O rings on oil and coolant holes..
Imo just use two AU head gaskets...Or if engine is apart?? Get some low comp pistons..
We have an AU running 15 Lb with std compression so don't fret too much on comp levels..
The main thing is to TUNE engine to compression .. 8.8 as with early E series is fine..
Some can be taken out of chamber to lower comp also.. With forced engines there is no need to have big quench areas..

Do you know how much it would roughly cost to get the head o ringed?

Hey,

"the guy" should be able to help you out. I'd say leave the shim out, the AU gasket should be good enuff.

Cheers

Mustang6, if you have a search around the gasket/shim threads, you'll find some info on how to use them if you go with the shim. I had a shim initially on my AU, then changed to copper gasket without o-rings (bad idea, always leaked), and now have a normal acl gasket, with head studs. There were quite a few threads about shims, etc, but the manufacturer of your shim should specify how to use it.

Thanks for the comments guys, engine was fairly easy to fit, gearbox was a bit harder but still most people could do it if they know how to use a welder.

Yes it has been engineered,

OK update, ENgine has been put together, all new bearings, gaskets, EA pistons, head bolts, with head shim :) hope for no leaks.

Now just have to get my engine bay all painted and drop it back in, cant wait to drive it again.

Should i run the engine in with boost? or not?

I have built a couple of boosted engines and always have been reccomended by engine machinist to run them in on the intended boost level, unless you intend to run real high boost. So to give you a figure, the last 2 boiosted engines i have had, i ran them in at 10 psi, and simply followed the normal rules of running in an engine.

OK cool thanks heaps , ill just run it on 8psi, thats what i was running before i pulled the engine down and it wasnt pinging so it should be good now its lower compression.

Im just gonna take it on a mountain run, plenty of load on it should be good

Sounds like a plan, as long as your tune is good, and you dont flog the guts out of it, it'll love you long time.

Hey does anyone know where to get a decent harmonic balancer other than the standard one?
